most likely the paint, if the paint size doesn't match the barrel size then it wont perform well. But i wouldn't think that would make it chop all the time..... where they older and how cold was it outside?

probably the paint to bore match. i use some really cheap paint that is probably worse quality and i only get about 4 ball breaks per case. if the paint to bore match is really off i can see it breaking often, unless there is something else you are not mentioning like
-the paint is really old
-velocity was way to high
stuff like that

check the shell on all of the paintballs, are there dimples or anything that makes it not look like a perfect circle, if it was old, or stored to long w/o being rotated, it probably had weekend shells, causing it to chop all the time.
that or your velocity was way to high, or a bad ball to barrell match/fit.

Yeah, dimples or soft spots on the paintballs will definately hurt performance. Make sure one didnt bust in your pod or bag or where ever you keep 'em. If one did most likely others got paint all on the outside. And as everyone is saying, match fit could be an issue.

its simple, just put a ball in your barrell, then hold it up to a light, and you will be able to see light around the ball. now if there is ALOT of light around the ball, your barrell is to big for that paint, so get a smaller bore sized barrell and do the same thing, when there is not much light around the ball, your pbs fit better in your barrell.

you can also see if the balls roll through your barrell, by simply placing them in and seeing if they roll through.

and you can use your barrell like a blow gun, to find a good bore/barrell match. Just put a ball in the barrell, then blow it through, it if is REALLY REALLY hard to get through, go to a slightly larger barrell, if it just rolls through pretty much, go smaller.

i know this isnt to in depth, but either is sizing up your paint.
