This sucks for me if its true
This is a message from my friend Theo:
i should tell you now i guess, so you know, but the airport took your ion, and they didnt give it back. they left a note in the bag saying that they took it becasue it was aparently illigal to have, but i know its not. im trying to get it back, but im not sure if i can as of now. just wanted to tell you.
This all started when he decided he was going to play paintball in Portland, Oregon. He told me that he was selling his gun for a freestyle and he needed to ship it as it is so he asked to borrow my gun, being a decent friend i agreed, and i always thought that airport security allowed it in Checked(sorry for the confusiion) luggage.
I should also tell you though he is a frequent lier as he gets some type of sick pleasure out of it. Should i believe him? Will airport security return it? and how would i go about getting it back?

lol.. I would think that is a pretty good prank. But if it is true, you should be able to get it back.

ok if you know he's a liar, i dont know why you would possibly believe this.
and im sure airport security would leave a note telling you they confiscated your marker.
they wouldn't bother telling calling you, or notifying you that you have property to pick up..
actually envermind i cant even argue, you're a ****nig idiot for believing him for a second

I've taken more than 3 guns on plane trips and every single time I retrieved them at the end of the flight. As long as it's not in your carry-on, there is no problem with having a paintball gun in your luggage. Not only would they not just "take it and leave a note", if anything, they would have had someone at the arrival airport remove the suitcase and have him come down to the security offices so they could open it up just to see what it was. No airport in the US will seize your property like that and especially not something that isn't illegal.

Hmm, yeah I'd have a little "talk" with this so-called friend of yours. There's just no way airport security would leave you a note in your bag to explain why they took something.

1) The TSA is well aware of what a paintball marker is and they deal with folks flying all over the world with them in their luggage.
2) If, and I say a most tentative IF, the TSA decided that they needed to confiscate the marker, you can bet that when your friend got off the plane there would be two, or more, burly TSA agents there to 'escourt' your friend to a small room to "talk".
3) Your friend is a dork. Call his parents and get your marker back or get 'proof' that the marker was confiscated.
4) Did I say your friend is a dork? Oh.. I wasn't sure.
5) Get new friends..
6) There is NOOOOOOOO Rule 6.
From the TSA Website:
If you bring a prohibited item to the checkpoint you may be criminally and/or civilly prosecuted or at the least asked to rid yourself of the item. A screener and/or Law Enforcement Officer will make this determination depending on what the item is and the circumstances. This is because bringing a prohibited item to a security checkpoint - even accidentally - is illegal.
Your prohibited item may be detained for use in an investigation and if necessary as evidence in your criminal and/or civil prosecution. If permitted by the screener or Law Enforcement Officer, you may be allowed to: - Consult with the airlines for possible assistance in placing the prohibited item in checked baggage
- Withdraw with the item from the screening checkpoint at that time
Make other arrangements for the item such as taking it to your car
- Voluntarily abandon the item. Items that are voluntarily abandoned cannot be recovered and will not be returned to you.
NOWHERE in any of their materials do they state that they will confiscate the item and 'leave you a note', such as your dork of a friend has told you.
Also on the TSA website is a list of prohibited and permitted items. Paintball markers are considered Airguns by the TSA and ARE allowed in checked luggage.
The other possibilty is that someone in baggage handling stole the marker and left a note in order to make your friend think the TSA got it. If that is the case, which I highly doubt BTW, then you need to contact the police in that area so they can take a report.
Good luck...

I got this message from him
it was through checked and i know that its compleatly legal to do so. thats why im trying to get it back, i wouldnt say anything to your parents yet if you havnt bc im trying to get it back. my theory is that a young guy who was working at the airport reconized it was an ion and then was like "uhh, i need to check this one" and then swiped it and left the "this bag has been checked" note. i dont know the number here though, if i find out ill tell you.
the number at the end is refering to his hotel phone number so i can call him
I still think he may be full of ****, hes known to take jokes WAY to far, so it makes me skepticle(sp).
Also i sent him a reply which basically said "Your either going to get it back or pay me full for it"

If 1 of my "friends" asked to borrow my marker and are frequent liars, there's no way I'd let them use it, let alone take it on an airplane etc.

If he had the marker in his carryon luggage, yes, it would have been removed by the TSA. However, if they had indeed removed it, he would have been asked to a) put it in checked luggage, or b) Voluntarily surrender it. If he did B -- then you will never see it again, and he owes you some bling. If he had it in his checked luggage, they would have not even noticed it.
Tell your parents, then call his parents and get him to fess up what is going on. There is no loyalty here to be given to this so called 'friend.'
