Im actually going to have to agree with shamed on this one. Both are important to be the best player possible. But with out skills by the player you will lose no matter what. The best player can beat a noob usign a pump and the noob using sl66 ego. But unless you have the best possible gun and setup, you can be limited by your equipment. allowing someone withthe same skill or slightly less to win.

Neither it's all about skill. You could have a crappy stock brass but have the determanation and guts to play and be really good, so it's neither.

The player makes the gun. Unless your marker makes you severly limited. Ie, not working, shooting 150fps, ect.

it's mainly the player. The gun plays a very small role in it.
How else do you think some players can compete in national events w/ pumps and get eleminations?
ultimately it only takes 1 shot. And getting to that 1 shot is all player.

The player is more important then the gun. Example, give Lang a Brass Eagle, and give some kid a timmy, Lang will probbly still shoot him.
If you have a gun the works fine like (Semi-auto, 250ish fps, and dosn't chop everyball) then you'll be fine.

but the kid would still stand a better chance of beating Lang then he would if he gave him a high end gun.
Basically it is neither. If you take 2 newbs at the same skill level and give 1 a ****ty gun and 1 a high end chances are good the person with the high end is gonna win, but on the other hand if you take a newb with a high and and a good player with a low end the chances of that newb winning are decreased. I think the gun does make a huge difference though. Take a pump or a spyder out to the field and play for a day then go take a better gun (shocker/timmy/ego/dm/whatever other high ends there are) I can gaurantee you will play better with the high end.
You can argue this back and forth but imo a bad player with a bad gun is gonna suck, a bad player with a good gun is gonna be ok, a good player with a bad gun is gonna be ok, but a good player with a good gun is gonna kick ass.

.... ok, how about a good player with a mid-range gun?? Like IDK a nerve or promaster, I beat you it will make no difference then between that and a high high end gun.

This has been done a 1000 times... perhaps a sticky in the new player forum or something should be made.
In a nutshell, the answer is no. The better the gun, the more of an edge you have, thus the reason pro players shoot $1000-$1800 guns.
The greatest gun in the world will not make up for complete lack of skill. You can have ramping gun that shoots 30bps laser beams, but guess what happens when you suck and go up against someone with skill regardless of his gun... You'll end up getting tunnel vision and will get a rude wake up call when they come bunker you -or- you'll lose a snap battle -or- you'll get shot otb. Take your pick.
(Seriously meestah mods, there should be a sticky!! )

paintball is 90% luck, 8% bull****, and 2% skill.
but in seriousness, paintball is about 70% skill, 30% gun.

Who cares? If you can afford it, buy a better gun. If you can't, then don't.
Maybe you'll get pwn3d if your gun screws up. But it's just a game, honestly. Expect to lose, and plan to win.
