Great thread man. I use to ref at a field in SJ, won't mention the name.....it rhymes with Hino's......but anyway....the air ball fields are on the same lot as a driving range(both under the same owner) and at about 8:00 Sunday morning, we'd be out on the fields with golf ball punchers(on average their would be about 50 golf balls on each field, yes i've counted before that's how horribly tired and bored I was) aside from filling the bunkers, it was work! The worst is if it had rained that night and the field was wet or the seal's on the fills were broke and leaked....those bunkers do not cooperate. But all in all it was a great experience. The pay was crap, but I didn't do it for that. They took care of us(bought us pizza's every lunchtime, free waters/gatorades all day to keep us hydrated)we could play for free when we weren't reffing. It did get to the point where i'd jump in games while on the job because of how hard it was to stay away from ball-to-face-ing some kiddies, and eventually I quit/got fired...haha....but all in all it was a great experience and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in meeting great people, and really getting to know the game better. You really do pick up some things by watching people play all day, shooting lanes, what bunkers work in what situations etc.

Great job on this post
I have been paint balling for a few years and i am looking to get into reffing but i don't know if a field will want a 14 year old reffing even though i have done it at speed ball fields. Any 1 have any tips on getting into reffing i am getting tired of the refs that i have to deal with. Also what do refs get payed on average i would be reffing at Wasaga paint ball if possible

If you want to just start, talk to the owner (or whoever is in charge) and ask if you can ref that day (for free, probably). You can get some experience reffing pretty quick.

I totaly agree with everything you say. I dont know if youve ever herd of Challenge Park, CPX, CPX sports or whatever you want to call it, I am currently a referee at the Paintball Field and I TOTALY agree with everything you typed above. People take that job for grantit and the players think that they cann tell us what to do. But being a referee is NOT an easy job. And yes, safety is the #1 most important thing about paintballing. Thats half of our job, to inforce the safety rules. The way we do it where i work is if we see them at any point (open or private party palyers) with there goggles up, off, or lifted, we hole punch their wristband over the barcode. On the 2nd hole punch we send them home. We breif them before every game no matter what. They may play the same field all day, and if they play 20 games on the same field, then they hear the same rules 20 times. They also require walk on players to watch a safety video before getting the "breifing" hole punch on there wristband. After the 2 hole punches we tell them that they are no longer able to play for the remainder of the day. And they always have to argue. And really its not that hard to follow the rules. So anyone who reads this being another ref or walk on, if your another ref, always back up and stick with your and other refs call. Aand if your a walk-on/open player, give the ref the credit they deserve. I GARUNTEE they will go home with at least 3 times as many welts as you will.

I am very sorry for resurecting this thread but... There is a new ref at the feild and he is still getting the hang of the reffing thing, so would you mind if i copy/paste this onto a bigger sheet of paper and give it to him for some pointers and how to's?
