Exclamation Anti Syphon.. dangerous?

I decided to buy my friends LE 2k4 impulse vision w/ freak barrel, and i'm kinda out of money now...

I already have 2 c02 tanks (a 20 oz and a 12 oz). Instead of spending $70+ on an hpa tank, I was told I can put an anti syphon on my c02 tank. I know it's not as good, and it's still just a little bad for the gun, but this is temporary until I can get an hpa tank.

I am looking at anti spyphon things, and they seemt o be about $6. I am not sure how to install this exactely, so I looked for a tutoail:
Siphon/anti-siphon installation

It seems kind of dangerous, am I right? I am not sure exactely how to take off the gold part of the tank, and don't want it to explode or anything. WOuld a local paint ball shop be able to do this for me? Also, I'm guessing I have to empty the tank.. Is there a way to do this short of shooting in about 500 times? Doesn't that still leave co2 in the gun?

I am also not sure what extacly this does to protect my gun... From those diagrams, all I get is that it uses more of the liquid?

Any help would be appriciated.

an anti-syphon is a little tube built onto the valve of the tank that is bent down to only pick up the co2 gas inside your tank. It is installed to keep the liquid co2 out of the gun. A local shop would do the install for you, but i dont think i would shoot co2 down an impy at all.

Best thing to do it to take you tanks to a local shop so that they can have some who is certified to work on the tanks do the work for you. If you do this your self your just asking to turn your tanks into a deadly projectile. 2 people have been killed by tanks becoming missles lets keep it that way.

What are the negative effects of it? If it is only shooting air and not liquid I should be fine right? Isn't that also what the compression chamber does, get rid of any liquid? I'm not that knowledgeable when It comes to the different parts of paintball guns, sorry.

Thats because you're not shooting "Air" you're shooting the gas form of carbon dioxide. Basically you're going to wear out your marker at about 10x the normal rate of wear. Granted, having an ANTI-SIPHONED co2 tank is better than a non tubed one, its still not a good situation.

Co2 is dirty, and its not regulated, do not run it through your gun. A anti-syphon is not hard to do, if you know what you're doing. Otherwize your probably going to kill yourself, but hey, thats sounds like a personal problem.

It will be dangerous if you mess up, or it is done wrong. Properly installed, it will be a safe system. I would recommend asking a shop to do it for you, if for no other reason than it's easy to damage the tank and valve taking them apart, and damage will result in failure.

What it does to protect the gun is it should draw in only the Gas CO2 from the top of the tank. Anti-Siphon...The opposite of the Siphon tank which is designed to get only the liquid (liquid would be very bad for your setup).

The catch is that the tube needs to be bent towards where the 'up' side of the tank will be when the tank is on your gun. That means the shop will want to see your marker, or at least have the tank marked so it is installed correctly. Remember, if its upside down it will be a Siphon instead of an Anti, and that will be bad. Very bad. So what happens when you shake the gun around when playing? Right, it might suck in a little liquid. If the liquid gets into the regulator on the gun, it'll turn to gas and raise the pressure really quick and might blow the little seals in the gun.

Plus as you shoot the CO2 will get cold as usual and the pressure output will change.

If you put the anti-siphon tank onto another gun, it might not line up correctly. It might end up being sideways or upside down.

Would I run an anti-siphon on a gun like that? If I had to. Otherwise, it'll really show its ability on HPA, and there's almost no chance of damage. $70 might take a while to come up with but it'll be worth it. Used tanks can be found in great condition for a fair amount less than that.

I run my imp on A/S CO2 nearly everytime it's used. They run just fine. In alot of ways, there built to take either just as well.....
