well now that the thread is revived...
topherSPI if you read this thread anymore let alone visit the forum...a couple of jackasses won't ruin the sport. Think about baseball, how many people do you think knock down mailboxes or cause problems with baseball bats, or how Al Capone decapitated several people with a louisville slugger, and still baseball is america's favorite past time. Point being, paintball isn't going to be hurt by a few vandalisms

Yeah, but baseball has been huge since those forms of vandalism have existed. Plus, not nearly as many people in baseball are punks in comparison to those in paintball.
i personally hate when you have a kid that is shot out during the game, and the game is still happening, and he takes his mask off! i know that all of you have seen these kids before. its so stupid. its hard for me not to yell at them.

QFT, i dunno how many times that's happened to me, once I was about to bunker-run a good friend of mine, little did I know he had "called time out" and had his mask off....that was a backyard game, too, could have ended very, very badly.
Safety cannot, and I mean CANNOT, be stressed enough in a sport such as this. If paintball is to survive, it has to keep the numbers low (as, thankfully, it has) over the years to keep the nutjobs who think paintball is an "extremely dangerous war simulation" from having anything to brag about. Thankfully, all the ref's I've seen/heard at my local fields do not tolerate any kind of safety hazards (walking around w/o barrel plugs in the markers, firing a marker in any area that is not considered "hot" (ie, chrono stations, game fields during a game), being in a hot zone without a full mask). I don't have it in my bookmarks anymore, but there was a site out there that showed paintball being safer than even bowling, as far as injuries per year are concerned. Let's keep it that way

Yeah I remember one time I was playing on a field with no ref and I shot someone in the face cause he took his mask off while I was shooting it wasn't funny at the time but later it was we were al laughing.lol

1) It is never funny to shoot someone in the face. Outlaw ball with no safety rules is the #1 area where people get hurt playing this sport. You got very very lucky that you didn't seriously injure your friend when he committed the cardinal sin of taking his mask off when there are still live markers in play. There is nothing funny at all about this.
I guess your right but it was only funny after be cause he didn't get hurt but I agree with you 100% I think it was just relief more than anything I edited the post to what I meant to say.
i used to ride quads in an area where it was common to see woodsball players. Needless to say, within one fall/spring, i had been shot at least 20-30 times. It was at that point that i lost all respect for paintball. About a year later, i was convinced to purchase a gun by a good friend. Im still playing with that gun, and it's safe to say that i was completely wrong in my assumption that all "paintballers" are like the few mentioned above. After playing for a while, I've realized that paintball, just like other sports, can build amazing bonds with people you never anticipated talking to.

Yeah, paintball for me, at least, is fun only if the team is fair and the other players don't cheat or be sore losers.
Other than that, even though it's common sense, wear a full face mask, not just goggles. My friend got hit in the mouth today, and chipped a tooth off... Ouch...

Most Excellent thread! I would even say Dead Thread, if the topic was not so vitally important to the survival of our sport.
I have one other topic to add to this:
Shooting At UnAcceptable Targets
It seems like once a month I read a story on one of the many internet news sites about how a bunch of kids, or a couple of drunk frats, or just some random guy got arrested for shooting at a skunk, or some stray dogs down the street, or the new public library.
How can our sport expect to become (and stay) mainstream, or even legal for that matter, if stupid people insist on doing stupid things with their paintball markers.
It'll be a bunch of nubs like these who end up ruining the sport for the rest of us.
Agreed. Most of the problems arise from the maturity (or lack of) of a lot of the players. My friends and I got a marker when we were young and dumb, and I look back at some of the things we did with it and shake my head. We did it all - shot gobstoppers, squirrel hunting, house painting, even as far as modding a freakin blowgun to the end of the barrel. Luckily no one got hurt and nothing got damaged. We were young and dumb. I'm new to the board I'm really impressed with the knowledge, seriousness, and maturity that most of the members display here. Great board and great thread!
I see these on a few masks, many are only 1", some 2".
Are these dangerous in any way?
Woo, it's been a while since I've been here last... like... a year or two... Any ways, glad to see this thread is still here! As far as those things go they're nothing to worry about, except for this one time that a made a kid buy a new mask because he had drilled holes through the lens to put those spikes through it! Some people are so dumb.
my friend can be an idiot. all the time i ask to see if his safety is on. he'll say yes, then i look and guess what? its not. then one time he points the gun right at my face. (were not on the field so i dont have my mask on). it made me mad. then he acts like nothin happened and is asking why i got mad at him. but then again this is the guy who doesnt wear(or even care about) a seatbelt. he says they can kill you. yea i really need new friends.
