I'm not a fan of the Epiphany in anyway. It's just an Ion in a nice body. (not joking at all).
Though the Epiphany's price has plummeted in the last year, it's still not worth the what $250 new.
You'd be better off buying the Proto PMR or Prote SLG for the same price. But if you want a really nice marker for the value, the DP fusion or Invert mini (both about $300) are nicer then the epiphany and proto's. You should look at those 2 markers, they'd be great for someone starting tournaments.

if your local field sells marker,s they'll let you test them first. Usualy you can ask players as well. Let them know you're looking to buy a new marker and you want to see what theirs feels like. I have no problems with letting somebody pop off a few shots with mine so long as I am with them.

That's 100% right. The Epiphanay is realyl just the Ion with an all metal body, and slightly upgraded internals. Since it is basically still an Ion, I don't like them at all.

you will be more then happy with the PMR. I have shto bot hthe epiphany and PMR back ot back and got very very similar performance outta the two, but pmr just shot more like a matrix and felt better in my hands so thumbup to you.

Good choice. The PMR is a top notch marker, and will take you a long way too. What I like about them, is the fact that they're made by Proto, which is in fact DYE; therefore, you have no need to buy any major upgrades, except for a new backcap (I reccomend NDZ [New Designz], and possibly a new feedneck [again I reccomend NDZ]).
I'm going to be getting a PMR off of AVI (ActionVillage) over Christmas time. I'm buying an NDZ feedneck, and an NDZ backcap right off of the bat as well. They're really the only essential upgrades that it needs.
