Off the "Wall" question

Hi! I have never played PaintBall, so I don't know if this can be done. My 13 year old thought it would be cool to paint her room by shooting colorful paintballs at the walls. She wanted to have 'splats' of all colors on the walls. I am all for it . . . if it works.

My question is, would the paint in paintballs work, or is this paint made to wash off easily? Has anyone done this? Have any pics?

Thanks!

it'll dry into a powder very much like corn starch and smell terrible. It's a great idea though if you can simulate a paintball with real paint.

Oh . . . I wouldn't like that. There are enough odd smells coming from a 13 year olds messy room as it is. We will have to think of some way to do this using regular paint. But thanks for the heads-up!!

I know exactly what you mean. I think splatter painting is the way to go; i thought about doing it once so i shot at some extra drywall I found in the basement. The first problem was that the paint ran down the wall instead of sticking to it, the second problem was that it dried into a powder.

I've done some splatter painting as well and if you do it right, you can get a nice effect. the key is to not get a lot of paint on the brush of it globs on the wall.

......now everybody is going to think I'm a fruitcake

Amen to that.

lol

That sounds like a cool idea though. Especially if your into paintball (not sure if she is or not) but it would be pretty cool if they made paintballs that would make an effect like that..

Well, some paints wouldn't dry into powder although most would. Whichever you chose, you at best would get interesting spatters with odd globs in the middle, it wouldn't be a smooth finish. -edit- I almost forgot, on top the globs you end up with pieces of the shells everywhere including stuck to the wall. Paintballs are after all paint inside gelatin capsules, they're not just globs of paint like some uninitiated think.

On top of that you'd have to adjust the velocity down so that the balls would still break, but not punch a hole through the wall or something which is very possible depending on a lot of things (type of balls, type of wall, how close your standing). The only way I can think to achieve this perfect velocity is through trial and error which could be problematic for obvious reasons.

There are other much easier ways to achieve a splatter effect, namely just throwing regular paint at the wall or something...
