any type of cleat will help, be it fotball, soccer, running, or even golf. Not so sure about basebal, but if those people that run to the bases use them, then they can't be that bad.
I personally use soccer cleats, and they work amaingly well. Very cheap too, got them on sale for about $16

if youv'e got them by all means, use them. if not get some soccer cleats or football cleats. I'm partial to soccer cleats because I have them laying around from highschool and they're also cheap compared to football cleats(which tend to be sorta heavy)

Apparently, soccer cleats give better multi-directional movement as well, or so I hear.

soccer cleats are where it's at. and try to get low-top cleats. I have had nothing but bad experiences with high-top cleats(twisted/sprained ankles).

Use track shoes with golf cleats in them for turf.
For everything else, I use the cleats with all the rubber nubs on the bottom.

Yep, i use soccer cleats as well. My school is really small and we have a grass football field, so its a treat when we get to go play on a turf field. I know a lot of us used regular tennis shoes/basketball shoes, but that paint can get slick on turf. Still, id pack a regular pair of shoes just in case.

Football and baseball cleats will give the best traction running forward. Soccer cleats will give adequate traction in all directions. If you want to be flexible to many different playing field conditions get a pair with the interchangeable lugs for the sole. (similar to golf shoes) I wouldn't recommend golf shoes as they normally don't allow for the kind of flex that you would need on the field.

I work at a shoe store and though it is not true that soccer cleats have better lateral support as said earlier it is true they are generally regarded as the most versatile cleat. For example if a mother comes in with her son who plays soccer, football, and baseball we are told to recommend that they buy a pair of soccer cleats.

Interesting...
So, from your point of view, what is the best multi-directional cleat?

I do not recommend paintball specific cleats such as JT or dye atc.... they suck and are heavy. If your field would let you, track spikes kick ass

There is a difference between lateral support and lateral traction. A soccer cleat is always a lowtop, so there is less lateral support of your ankle. Football and baseball cleats are often mid or hightops and offer more lateral ankle support, but less lateral traction. It all has to do with the lug shape. Baseball and football require mostly forward motion and as such have lugs that are shaped like small shovels. Great forward traction, marginal lateral traction. Soccer requires traction in any number of directions and as such the lugs are usually round as well as often having a variety of hardnesses to allow for various field conditions. Try to think of it in terms of paintball barrels: some people get different sized barrels others get one barrel that has interchangeable sleeves. Some people buy several pairs of cheaper cleats to allow for field conditions, others get one pair with interchangeable lugs.

Yeah, they do. I have a pair of Italian Umbro soccer cleats, and they give you so much control; it's amazing.
I'd suggest using soccer cleats, but any type of cleat will work. Just make sure that whatever you use, don't have metal spikes on them. These can pierce bunkers, tear up the field, and injure people if you step on them somehow.
