well for reserch purposes you can buy air line filters usually @ any reasonabl hardware store lowes homedepot, ma/pa shop and even places like motion auto carries them behind the counter

how ever rapping an excesive amount of plumbers tape around the threads is never a good idea use the correct fittings and you wont have to worry about being state legal
simply attach the filter to the compressor side of the line and use a compression coupler uo go from the quick connect coupler on the air hose to the 88g adapter alot safer and you dont have the filter so close to you in the event that it ruptures and sends shrapnel in all directions
