UCF Paintball Club...

I'm a student at the University of Central Florida and haven't been on these forums in a while. Here at UCF there once was a paintball club and like every other decent University, the club was funded meaning the members got to play for free and have events paid (for the most part). Unfortunately, the club slowly faded away and is now just a few of the alumni members playing on the weekends. Now what does this mean...

I've contacted UCF's Office of Student Involvement and the answer they gave me was to organize a few meetings and they will fund weekends to go play and eventually events. What I'm looking for here is tips, ideas, anything that can help me organize this club and eventually team. For example, should this be an open club and for those who want to play events just sign up or try-out; what kind of fundraising events should be held, how can I advertise, etc.

any ideas are appreciated

You might have to renew your club's constitution. I know my college's club had to do that when we brought it back. If your campus has some type of email newletter try and get on that. Of course the best way to get people is word of mouth! Our club grew through personal contacts more then all our advertising. Posting flyers and such in the dorms and around campus would also be a good way to make it known that your club is around. We run our club as an open club but focus most of our efforts on the tournament style and our NCPA team. The roster for NCPA events is voted on at meetings.

Anyway good luck to you man and I hope you guys get to play some really fun NCPA events.

Thanks... I'm also a little curious how your meetings go down. How is it conducted etc.

It's a sort of formal thing now that we are a little larger. We scaled back how frequent our meetings are now that we are a little more established. Our president kicks it off and gives a report of what is going on. After that our various officers give their updates. Questions from anyone in the club are asked whenever through the report and decisions are made through a show of hands. We don't really follow a Robert's Rules of Order structure though.

Ok. But on a smaller scale if you were a member then, how were officers elected and how were they run when the club was fresh and just coming around.

Officers are elected through popular vote of the members. There really isn't many positions you need to run the club, a president and treasurer can do most of it. We also have a coach and a secretary. I can't answer that very well as I joined this club just a few months after it was formed so I wasn't there when the initial buildup was happening.

At our school we need four people at most (President, VP, secretary, and treasurer). Whoever was our secretary was going to be our coach. Is there anyone I can contact such as the president of your club so I can get an idea of what he went through to get things rolling. Thanks.

Well, for fundraising i would say do some bake sales and car washes. Just some simple stuff. And if any people in the club are handy men, have them help people with cars or building sheds for pay. Yard sales work too.

Get a website up, make flyers, read all the faqs and other articles on how to get started at NCPA College Paintball Association - Clubs, Teams and Tournaments

Make a list of companies and start contacting them for sponsorship.

Schedule your first meeting and decide on officers and what not. Make sure you have all paperwork in order such as a constitution.

As far as fundraisers go, we are putting on a tournament at a local field that will face the fraternities and sororities on campus against each other.

Check out our website USF College Paintball Team

It's good to know that people are trying to get paintball into college and high school enviroments. Going to a local community college in NY we have no paintball club. With these ideas I may go talk to my advisor and see what steps I would have to take to get a paintball club up and running. Any more info would be helpful so don't stopping posting.

just a quick update. We are missing only a finished constitution and an advisor. Other than that were almost ready for the approval process.

That would be legit. A cage match with paintball included.

Uhh Vanzrider I sent you a pm.

Bobide I was looking around on NCPA's website and actually had to email them for a letter of support for our school to acknowledge us. We'll be up on that listing once were registered with the school. The constitution is finished and were only missing an advisor. Our first meeting is March 22nd.

Josh,

Ask your coolest/youngest professor if he knows anyone who would be available.

I've ran the paintball and other 'action sports' club at a branch campus of Pitt for the last three years. Can't tell you a thing about tournament paintball (aside from "Expensive" and "Not for me"), but I'll be glad to help any way I can.

lol brocks on PBF.... I actually have asked a majority of the younger teachers. I've resorted to going personally into the Office of Student Involvement and with the clubs information they are going to find me an interested teacher.

slagman you got a PM

thanks again everybody.
