Red face Tippmann A5

Hey guys, I was just wondering why you're always playa hating on the Tippy A5? Now please, I don't want anything stupid like "Tippmann's are gay because they are." or other stupid stuff. All I want is a rational explanations of the shortcomings of the A5, and why those shortcomings make it such a horrible gun in your eyes. Thanks! (unless its a stupid answer, then, no thanks, you should have just kept your mouth shut)

If you read the other post they're all there.
The weight a lot.
The cost a lot.
They're hard to take apart.
Their slow.
The a5/x7 charge you more so you can have a downgrade football(hopper) on the side of your marker.
I'm sure there are some more i'm missing but you get the point.

Alright. I can deal with that. Could someone do the same thing for BT, the Tippy 98, US Army, and the Spyder MR series? Thanks!

yes but none of them come with the god awful cyclone feeder...lol

not to mention bt makes better quality guns, and the mr series is both lighter and cheaper than tippmanns

but overall imo tippann as a whole makes the worst guns FOR THE PRICE that they charge. You can go out and buy basically any other gun on the market in the same price range and get a better gun, that gives more performance, weighs less, and is an overall much better bang for your buck.

Alright, so Tippman and US Army is out. That leaves us with Spyder MRs and BTs. anyone care to give me the skinny on the pros/cons of the two, and which brand is better for what, etc., etc. Once again, I can't say enough about the forum. I tell all my friends. You guys are the best! (thats not bull***t either, this forum IS really good.)

well im assuming your asking because your looking to purchase one, so may i ask why you have it narrowed to only those markers and left out all the rest within the same similar price range?

Alright, I'm big into Mil-Sim, half my family is in the military (literally half, no bull) and I'm an aspiring Marine, so I've narrowed to BT and Spyder because they make guns with great price/quality ratios and they're both customizable, so i can make a gun mine, without having to ask the government for a financial bailout!

only reason i ask is you usually loose a good amount of performance for the mil-sim look. But if you want that look and are deciding between bt and the mr series imo it would have to depend upon what mr

mr1 = bt4
e-mr1 > bt4
mr2 > bt4

but i would also have to assume that the bt4 is going to have more "gadgets" you can add onto it if that is real important to you. Keep in mind they will be 100% for looks only because they will serve you no purpose in game. But some people have an obsession with spending $500 to make their marking look "pimp" and idk if that is what you plan on doing or not.

and if you can afford it, I would def get the MR2 over the rest of them if you can. Its a good little electronic gun, comes with eyes to prevent chopping, multiple fire modes, and can take both co2 or hpa which ever you decide to get.

the best advise i can give you is get into paintball and then decide if you want to go mil-sim, none of the mil sim gadgets you put on your marker will make it better for paintball, they will actually only make it worse. nothing that works for actual firearms makes a paintball marker better

if you still want a marker that has a little bit of a milsim look there are some out there that have decent preformance along with a bit of a milsim look

as for the mr1 and bt4, i say mr1 over bt reguardless of either one having a e-frame the reason is, both are blowbacks but the mr1 is much easier to service and will be lighter and smaller than the bt.

also look into the SP1 and smart parts vibe, these two markers have some pretty good preformnace for their price along with a little bit of a milsim look

if you want to find something outside the mil sim market look into the spyder vs1 if your running co2 and the vs2 if your running hpa

Nice input, but let me clarify things for you guys, unlike some people(not implying you, dont get pissed and flip out) I have to pay for my own toys, I'm only 16, and currently out of a job, so i only have about $350. I can't run HPA because i dont have 3 grand to dish out for a scuba tank and i live about 50 from the closest city, which only has a couple thousand people in it. My older brother is on the fire department, but HPA tanks are expensive, and I would need to buy a 50 dollar adapter to get it filled there. (don't go off on HPA I know what I'm talking about). I'm also not a idiot like a couple of my friends, I know that a paintball is round a marker is not a real firearm, so its not going to shoot 1000 yards. I would primarily used it for outlaw ball, not going to out fit it with worthless gadgets, only stuff that helps, but i do have a knack for being the fish swimming in the different direction than the school (like that Norwegian Criuse Lines commercial). But anyway, I'm not trying to be mean, i just wanted to clear that up. but if you have suggestions for other guns that meet my criteria, feel free to talk about them. Thanks!

If you're only go to put useful stuff on your marker, then you're not going to buy anything mil-sim, since by the definition of what's useful, something that adds weight but does not make the marker any faster, easier to use or more accurate is useless. Therefore I also suggest like Trbo did the Vibe or VS1. Both co2 friendly, both VERY nice markers for their respective prices. Vibe much easier to find.

thats all fine and good but if your on a limited budget thats even more of a reason to stay away from milsim, the markers are for the most part, more expensive than their non-mil sim counterparts.

what makes you think you would need 3 grand for a scuba tank? you can find scuba tanks for around 50 bucks a lot of times and an adaptor for $35 (i got mine scuba tank at a yard sale for 10 and had it hydroed for 30) but granted i agree this is still not the way to go for you

for the money i say look into the SP1 or the vibe (vibe has a better trigger and frame IMO) they are around $100 and are not a blowback marker (most mil sim markers are blowbacks) so it is a step above most others in the same area.

I'm not an A5 hater my opinion has always been that it is a great marker for a casual player. The Cyclone will reliably feed paint and no batteries are required for the hopper or the marker. You can toss it under the bed or in your closet and when you take it out again three months later it is good to go just wipe it down and toss back in the closet or under the bed when you get home. If you are even halfway serious about paintball the limitations make themselves evident very quickly. It isn't as quick or light or as smooth shooting as the other markers on the field and if you want to keep up you have to start putting money into it. Those upgrades individually are much cheaper than a new marker so it is a far too easy decision to make. Unfortunately those upgrades collectively cost a lot more than a marker that is exponentially better performing.

If you just want a cheap marker to piss around with your friends in the back 40 the BT4 is a great choice it is cheaper and better made than a Tippmann. For a bit more I am absolutely smitten with the SP1 it is the greatest thing to happen to the entry level/recball market in the brief history of paintball. No I don't think I am exaggerating just try one.

Wow, you know I had actually seen the SP1 many times and just kind of blew it off you know, but now looking at it, it seems to be a nice marker, and it would seem that Smart Parts is also a well established brand, so, any info on the SP! would be great. Thanks again people, all this has helped me greatly in deciding which marker to buy. And FYI, I am a first time buyer, just to clarify. Thanks!

well SP as a brand is very good at marketing....and placing patents on everything, for the most part their markers are a little overpriced for what you get, the sp1 is a very solid marker though. im not sure whats out there as far as upgrades for it but if you start off with a good enoufgh marker you dont need to put upgrades on it, it will run off co2 and will keep up with most other markers on the field. barrels are SP threads as its an sp marker (sometimes known as ion/impulse threads) i think you can get QEVs for it, im not sure what is out there in the way of triggers, someone else may have some insite on that, but a double trigger would be nice
