Make your "sons" starter setup!
"It's 10-15 years in the future, and your son is almost at the age he can play paintball. You sold all paintball related things things when you got married, and you've decided your son should soon hit the turf. Paintball technology is the same as it was in 2012, because... it just is. You're giving him a few hundred bucks to buy a setup and get going."
Basic premise: Come up with the best package(Marker, hopper, tank, mask) for certain budgets.
**Since masks are personal preference, we will add $60 as a middle ground instead of actually including a certain mask.
**The categories will be split up into new and used items. When using used prices, use a basic average as the price. Obviously this will change over time, so we'll consider this thread good for about 6 months, in which time it can be recreated if someone remembers or cares.
New : $200, $300, $400, $500
Used : $200, $300, $400, $500
For some examples I'll create a couple below.
My new $300 setup.
- $60 mask
- $20 Co2 tank
- $150 Spyder Fenix
- $70 Halo Too
My USED $400 setup
- $60 mask
- $90 used Ninja 68/4500
- $200 used FEP Quest
- $50 used Halo Too
Hopefully this thread will give some good opinions to the newer players out there, and for a better look into all the markers listed here as well as masks, check out Trbo's thread here.

Idea was to do the basic 4, and pod packs are more general, but feel free to include it if you would like.

I don't like the idea of putting used stuff on here or at least make a all new list as well. Some people don't have a big local paintball community to buy used stuff from. I dont consider refurbished used because you are getting it from an online store and its guaranteed.
So my new list from Ansgear.com for the $200-250 range
Refurbished Spyder RS $60
9.6v battery and charger $20
Proto switch FS thermal mask $50
Cyclone HPA tank $40
Tippmann SSL-200 $50
This setup will get you playing rec ball about as cheap as you reasonably can with one online order. If you want to save $15 and make it $205 you can get the Spyder VS1 refurbished it just doesnt have the features the RS does.

The whole premise was new AND used. And if you can shop for new equipment online, what's so hard about finding used gear there, too? I can count on the fingers of, well, two hands, how many used markers i've bought locally over the years... Let's see: 4 or 5 mags, a 'cocker or two, a blazer and a tippmann I flipped back in the day. That's about it - the other 97% I bought or traded for online.

I guess when I think of somebody looking for their first start setup I see them having a hard time browsing forums looking for a particular item at a certain price. Obviously the guys who chat here like you would have no problem buying used stuff. Thats what I was thinking.
Like I said I dont mind mentioning used stuff but it is nice to have a list you can get at a one stop shop in a matter of minutes.

...But it's not a new player looking for a used setup to start with, it's YOU looking for something for your son. Presumably you've played before.
