The powder balls are just a novelty....and they hurt lol. I have a bunch, they are cool to shoot - most fly somewhat straight, they just aren't made for performance. The Hydrotech balls haven't been put through their paces nor lived up to their hype....yet. Good idea, but they were supposed to be cheaper than what they are, and the reviews haven't been the greatest. If you want a flatter trajectory and a gain in range - just use FS rounds.

Hydrotec is pretty much kaput. Company fell apart.

My local field got a few demo cases about 3-4 months ago. Per the people willing to drop the 95/case... they shot like regular balls, broke a little better, but liked to hook at the end of their flight path.
Far as the company being kaput - if the news is newer than 3-4 months old... awesome - though I haven't really been holding my breath on it.

Sorry to get in on this so late... but back in the 80's Glen Palmer and Tom Kaye did a ton of research on paintball design including dimples, rifled barrels, and many other things.
As I recall, dimples didn't make that much of a difference other then to make the cost of manufacturing dimpled paintballs so out of range for anyone to make it work.
There were issues of trying to get a consistent pattern on the ball since at the time most were made from bath bead machines and such where two halves of a sphere were filled and then sealed. So if you didn't have a match between the halves, then the ball sailed all over due to inconsistent airflow over the sphere.
Tech has changed slightly, however the issue still remains that to put consistent dimples on the ball would be cost prohibitive for the average 20bps shooter.

huh, thats odd you would think they would just create a new roller that put the 2 halves together since the shells at that point are still mushy there probably would not be any dimples right along the seam but overall that seems the easiest way to do it
