This was an interesting read - though also was a journey back through my business law and accounting textbooks

I'd love to know what the truth is though, but I read on too many different sources to not believe it that they did lose the patents due to them being in Smart Parts name, not in Gardner Brothers name due to how they had originally filed for the patent.

I heard KEE bought them. or at least some of them. That's why there's now and empire freak kit.

heres what i said above, really i dont think either is a great choice but if forced to choose i would go victor, just understand that you will be buying a marker that is no better than the rentals but the up side is you wont be at as much of a disadvantage as you would with the pump

mask is your most important piece of equipment, not only are they keeping your eyes intact but a crappy one will ruin your day of play. you could have a $2000 marker but if you have a mask on that fogs all day long, does it really matter? you cant shoot what you cant see

well putting aside the e-marker patent for a second, even if the freak patent was held by the banks i could see empire being able to produce the superfreak if the banks had no interest in paying lawers to enforce it over the marginal returns they would get considering...they are banks, they deal with huge amounts of money
on the other hand, its not like all of SP patents had to be purchased by one company, i can see them being split up which would also explain how empire is producing the superfreak.
i still have not heard anything on the e-marker patent though

I don't imagine that one is being used. It was a bull**** thing to do int he first place, and I'm glad it's gone. (as far as we know)

Most of my friends also suggested not to get a pump marker so I will cancel that, they said I should get a Tipmann Gryphon or a Spyder Victor. What are the diffrences between each other?

A gryphon? those tings like like terrible plastic markers. I'd absolutely get a spyder over one of them.
If you get a tippman, find an older one (pre-2004) for sale and use that. The reason being, is that back then they were made to the high standards that Tippman once had. They'll last forever compared to the new Tippmans.

i doubt its gone, i think its either going to take someone paying off the dept that SP owes (not likely considering they took out enough money to launch 50cal in Europe) or make some kind of a claim on the patent and battle the hell out of it in court, which, im a little surprised the G brothers have not done already.
besides "SP" owning the patent there were a handful of other names on that as well so i see no reason any of them, or whoever they sold their patent rights to should not be able to collect on it.
hopefully it is finally water under the bridge though, that would sure help the sport
