paintball + mythbusters, your thoughts?
so i have been watching a lot of mythbusters lately and it seems to be that whenever adam and jamie are shooting at eachother, they are never wearing a paintball mask. Tory, Grant and Carrie seem to be fine the few times they have used them. but Adam and Jamie while they have a helmet on with a screen covering their eyes usually it is defiantly not a mask and while knowing them it probably is rated to take hits i feel like this is just an invitation for kids to go play paintball in their backyard as long as "something" is covering their eyes but not necessarily their whole face and weather or not the visor things that Jamie and Adam use are or are not rated to take hits i feel like it is a small chance that a kid at home will have something available that will be rated to take hits (presuming they are not using a paintball mask as Jamie and Adam are not)
I was thinking about writing them a letter about this but would need some help to make sure it gets enough attention that they would actually take it seriously
your thoughts?

Write it. They will definitely take steps for better protection, especially since they shot that cannonball through somebody's house.

I've seen them wear masks before. I'm sure if you send them a nice email somebody will read it and perhaps consider it.

in a few i have seen them wear masks but typically it is when they have some robot setup to shoot at them not going against eachother (like the dodge a bullet one)
they have their website set up to accept comments and myth requests but i think the issue is, there are so many posts it would get lost quite quickly unless we have people commenting on it and agreeing with it

I'd put my name on it. Although I can see your point, it is a good idea to wear a mask, but in all honesty, the paintball fill wouldn't destroy your eyes. It might burn like crazy, but shouldn't impair your vision in the long run.

I say go for it. Even a slight chance of them reading it is better than no chance, because you didn't send it.

Um, yes it can! I'm new to the sport, but I have a friend who is partially blind in one eye from paintball about 15-20 years ago. He was only wearing shop glasses when he was hit, and now can only see peripherally in that eye. You can't tell me it won't be permanent.

Well, I really think that it has never passed through the mythbuster's crew to use a paintball mask during their crazy exprimentes because well, paintball masks are meant to be shot at, but I really think it is highly imporbable that somneone that might not have to much knowledge of paintball to come up with that security idea. Also, I think we are being to paranoic to think that kids that watch this show will get an idea similar to what Trbo suggests. How many kids actually watch the show anyway? As far as I'm concerned, not many actual kids watch Mythbusters but people ageing from 14 and above. Probably it's just me, but if I were a kid again I would most probably find Mythbusters boring and watch cartoons or something intead.

I know of a guy who lost his eye, he had it reconstructed but with many blind spots in that eye.

Most of the episodes center around blowing things up or shooting dummies 150ft in the air. Of course they do!

Paintballs were made differently back then, they have gotten a lot more enviormentaly friendly. I'm not condoning this in any way, I'm just saying that the fill in a paintball shouldn't destroy your eyes. Maybe it was the velocity of the paint entering in your friends eye.

I'll agree to that. the paint fill itself shouldn't damage your eyes.

Mostly now it's just water, corn starch, and coloring in various quantities. Only a very few tournament paints deviate from that idea.
Now, if broken shell was getting into the eye, doubly so while still maintaining any form of velocity, THAT could blind someone.

It may not be the kids that you have to look out for. There might be some adults who don't know better, and may teach their children bad habits. Seems like common sense, but we can all say that we all know someone with a few screws loose...
