Play them in a game with it, and own them.

It seems that your friends have it stuck in their mind that the gun makes the player. That is pretty much backwards.

Yeah, it basically comes down to the fact that ROF does help to a certain extent, but player skill goes way beyond what ROF can do. Good luck to you. Whip those pansies.

yea, back when i still had a pb gun, i would usually trade for a game with someone at my field, like, i would use there tippmann while they used my bushy. One thing i would do is be very aggressive, and make good ground at the begining of the game, So, when they start shootin fast, they start reloading alot, well, when they stop shooting and begin to reload, i run up to the next bunker, at the end of the game, i usually end up bunkering them, its all about skill and luck

yeah, i thought the same thing at first, that my 98 witha few ups would be all i need. i shot a mech cocker and fell in love. needless to say i sold my 98 and have an autococker en route but i still miss my 98 custom, it was built real solid and could take a beating no matter what, i plan on setting some $ aside and buying another 98 as a backup, get a j+j ceramic just like before, and do all the home modifications there are and it will be awesome once again. kinda different, but once you try a gun you really like, you will lust after it until you do something stupid like sell your tippman. lol. i just needed the cash. but yeah, to each his own.
not exactly the same thing, but one group of friends i play woodsball with always ask why i wore bright orange and chrome pod harness. i told them they'll see. needless to say i wasnt any better or worse than any of them in thier camo. i learn to use things to my advantage. my team used a distraction(me in my prison jumpsuit) so we could flank them. and guess what, it worked. well, now i have 4 camo uniforms....
im not really proving a point am i? lol
but seriously, go to them and say "i'd rather spend time getting skill than spending money for things i dont really need."

to add to this, most new players would put the gun down by reloading, but if your playin against a better player, the would know how to use the faster gun, and maybe reload while firing, and thats when you go buy a faster gun

yea, deff- if you've seen any NXL vids you'll see the way they don't even look down when reloading.
I've gotten totoally used to using a mech cocker against Impy's and Angels, so it's not a big shock for me when i have 19,997,897,373 bps coming at me when i'm goin *pa-tink*pa-tink* at them lol
i still have no probs shooting a mech cocker and doin well- I'm a really short guy (i'm 14 and i'm 5'4") so i can get to the 50 off break without gettin hit, 9 times outta 10.
ok, that whole post was off topic so here's some yopic time:
If you seriously think you can beat them then challenge them to s pump-only game, where skills are totoally used with no marker advantages.

A newb with an awesome marker is going to get raped by a skilled player with a 98c. But, better guns do help of course... as do many other factors: height, endurance, being trigger happy or not, etc...

when i had a spyder and my friend had imps and cockers ( even now when i had a pump, but i got a bit of respect). i would say " you want me to have a new gun? you pay for it and i'l play with it" always worked for me.
