it it true co2 can turn your gun into liquid, i heard that from a magazine, i have a
kingman spyder xtra and a imagine, and my crappy brass eagle, that the bolt and bottom end assembely blew up literally on me.
No it doesn't turn your GUN into liquid. CO2 IS a liquid when its in your tank. when it reaches your gun it usually has enough time to turn to gas, but somethimes it doesn't. Which is why you get X-chambrs and anti-siphon.
An expansion chamber i s a seires of diamond shaped chambers that the air has to pass through to get to the gun. The pressure increases becuase the air has to move aorund the diamonds, thus temperature is changed with it, and it comes out as gas.
The reason why the bottom end and bolt "blew up" on u is because some gas was trapped in your gun, and everytime u pulled the trigger more gas was being trapped inside ur gun, and soon enough the guns internals could not take the pressure, and the gas tried to find a way out. Resulting in whatever happened to you. It happened once on my cocker cuz it was not timed right, so the bolt would not go back into the chamber and block the next ball from dropping in, because it was filled with Co2, so I had to take my gun to the pro shop to get it depressurized.(Thats a big reason why i switched to NITRO) And Alpha described the expansion chamber pretty well, so i do not need to explain further on that.

The purpose of an EC is to increase the amount of surface area within the system. This allows the Co2 to absorb more heat, and boil the liquid to gas at a faster rate.
Older ECs consistent of many small chambers, while newer ones consists of many small BBs. This is why its not just an empty chamber, since that would not increase the surface area very much.
Ultimetly, it doesnt help that much, but is an improvement over the stock system.
Regardless, the LIQUID co2 will NOT hurt your gun. Its at the same pressure and temp as the gas in the tank. I run all my blowback by FORCING liquid CO2 through them.
Its hard knowing what exactly happened to your gun without seeing it, but, what "exploded"? Did the valve shoot out the front? or the hammer out the back? Or did the valve itself split? or break?

An expansion chamber is an attachment that allows liquid co2 in your tank to expand into a gas before it reaches your gun. If your gun were to get liquid c02 in it, in some cases that would be very detrimental to the gun. I shoot cockers and first off i would never use c02, but if i ever had to then i would use anti siphon valve to prevent liquid c02 from entering my marker. You need to be using nitrogen anyways, unless u r a noob. hehe
