This is way off topic but have you noticed things are becoming more and more like they were a while ago... instead of teams having just one or two huge sponsors, they have like 5 or 6 less major ones... the more things become different the more they are the same.

or profit margins have slimmed during this "slowdown" of the industy and sponsors have dropped teams so they hunt for more sponsors to keep playing.

I think that is one of the many problems. Teams should relay on themshelves more.

and i don't think you have a clear idea of the costs of running a team. Or the fact that they do pay many of the costs.
lets use nppl 7man as an example. Since xball costs even more
7 man roster + extra backup players = 10/11 players depending
full gear set ups for 10-11 ppl = $2500 a piece or so w/ retail prices
practice for 10-11 ppl including renting out the facitlity, PAINT, and travel costs to facility
now you have to attend the tournament's events over the country. So that includes, again, travel costs, hotel costs, PAINT, enterance fee for tournament, and if you have a coach or techs they need to get paid too.
sponsors are nessecary.

Yeah, from what I hear bottled water is like 4 bucks for a 20 ounce bottle.
I just hope the industry doesn't sink too low.
And Honestly i dont think paintball is going to get much more popular than it already is. Sad truth is that paintball has a chance of dying out totally if we aren't attracting new players. Call me a pansy or whatever, but things like wiping and overshooting (especially), and cheater boards that allow for velocity ramping are going to cause paintball to be wiped out. I can't tell you how many people say they would play but they saw "the bleeding welt on that guys arm from getting shot too many times/being hit with a ball exceeding 300 fps)".
