It is sure funny that the more things change the more they stay the same.
This argument has been raging (i.e. Which marker is better) since the first Nelson 007's came out. Cripes, I can still remember the Automag vs. Autococker arguments of the 90's, and then the spyder vs. tippman arguments of 2000 and beyond.
Smart Parts, for being a ruthless megacorporation, is not a dumb company. They saw a need for an entry level marker that did all those things that a $1200 marker does. Face it, today's paintballer wants BPS, flashy buttons, and insane upgradeability. So SP made the ion. There is nothing wrong with the ion. There is nothin wrong with a BKO, there is nothing wrong with playing with a mech spyder. At least you are out playing paintball and having a great time. The bottom line is when a ball breaks on your opponant, they are just as eliminated if the shot came from a slingshot or an OmG! tHE r0xZerz Uber DM25....

Okay I know this will be hard for some of you to believe. I was playing a local 5man xball tournament against d1 players. I am not a team player so I entered by myself. This wasnt the first time I have done this. I am fully confident since I have a tippmann sniper rifle with psssp mode. So I was playing against Gridlock single handly when I laned all of there players off break. I know I know, but yes, it can be done. However I ran to the 50 within 2 seconds and maintained the status of the situation and consumed the flag. I ran down the field swiftly (me being able to run a mile in 3mins flat) and checked off all the bunkers. Unfortunately with my supreme level of leetness I shot a bunker and it reflected and hit me in the mask. Another time when I single handedly played against Dynasty Dynamics I shot Oliver Lang and Rich Telford off break, along with there other 2 players. As I shot the 4th one, Tyler Humphry mugged me why yelling "ALOOHAAAAA" I was not very dissapointed considering the circumstances that I had a broken leg and had pink eye.

And for a guy with over 2,000 posts Jester is a Joker. I'm surprised you folks allow him on this forum. I see people coming down on folks who post on a subject that already has been posted on and you got this Jack A$$ being rude to folks for no reason. What a Loser..I bet he's one of those guys who gets bunkered.

Just so you know, if you censor words that aren't in the swear filter, like ass, that is still considered avoiding the swear filter.

i think the ion fad has faded, with Proto coming up with the Rail ($399) and PM7($750) and the fact that a brand new PM6 is $550, well, now the PM5 is around $350 with GOOD ups, so since you can now get what was top of the line just 2 years ago (and still is pretty well top of the line, just a little bigger and not as stylish as the 06/07 models) for the same price as the upped Ions...i think plenty of people will chose the used protos over the ions, or minis, etc
BUT ions still make good, cheap, reliable backup guns, so you will see ALOT of people owning ions for years to come

wow medic. I completely forgot about the Mag vs Cocker battles. I didn't pay much attention to them back then because i was 13/14 at the time and was trying to figure out more how i was going to afford my own gear and play more often than once every 6 months.
These days i still don't really care about who has the highest end marker, or how many upgrades there are for a marker. I can't justify spending more than what i did on my Rodeo. And i can't justify doing any more to it than a barrel and HPA (which i may upgrade to tomorrow) and there's probably more people like me out there than there are people looking to drop $1500 on their marker and upgrades. Kinda seems to me that anyone who would spend tons of money trying to make a marker like a Spyder Pilot perform the same as one of these 4 digit paint hoses, is the same kind of person that sinks 25 grand into their Honda trying to make it perform like a Ferrari.
Ion, DMx, Mini...eh. they all shoot the same ball. As long as it breaks, who cares how fast it gets there or how many more are behind it

yeah thats true, but smaller, lighter, faster guns make it easier to get the ball where you need it, and reduce your chance of getting hit
plus when your playing at an airball field, you get people out by bursting out 5-10 shots at a time at the same person, there arent many one-hit-wonders in paintball, unless your playing pumps

While you may not rely on 1 hit wonders in airball the way you might be able to in woodsall, what difference does it make whether you're delivering 6 or 16 balls per second? at 270fps, there's not much chance to time the balls so that you can peek out and shoot between them. Unless your name is Speedy Gonzales or Flash Gordon, your middle name will be X-mas Tree
Lighter markers, yeah i can see the advantage to those, as well as more compact. For the first time in awhile, i went out back and nearly unloaded a full 20oz CO2 tank worth of paint the other day, and towards the end, i found it hard to keep a quick, consistent rhythm due to fatigue, so i can see where an electro-marker would be advantageous in lane burning situations. However, not enough to justify buying one or upgrading mine. Maybe if i get more active into it later on, but def not now.

well in tournys the back players REALLY need to lay down the paint, it is the "cover" fire
but for everyone else, its just to have bragging rights and a cool gun
the 15 bps 3 round burst i found EXTREMELY fun in the ion
the biggest things people look for in high end markers, I think personally, is air effeciency, pleasant styling, and simple internals (like my pm6 has a simple bolt and is easy to fix (for me)
oh, theres also the intimidation factor, newer players that hear a gun shooting real fast get scared, ESPECIALLY with the 98c RT, lol
