I remember an engineer friend of mine who's been playing and working at a paintball field for quite some time now telling me that even if a paintball could really be frozen, the paint would be turned back into liquid when it's shot out the gun anyway.

why do you think that is? just cuz it hits the warm air?
and as for the frozen paint, if anyone does actually manage to freeze some that can actually be fired, id take a hit from one to proove my point

I don't know if this has already been said (cough), but the only kind of paint that could actually be frozen, is Monster Ball.
This is due to its water to oil ratio. There is simply too much water in the formula making it actually possible to freeze it. The oil is what lowers the freezing temperature, and because Monster Ball is lacking oil and has a higher H2O content that other paint, it freezes.
That's as simple as it gets right there...

They will freeze, yes, but unless you can manage to keep them COMPLETELY spherical, chances are they won't fire.
Make sure you don't shoot those things out of a gun you like :P. I have never shot a frozen paintball, per se, but I have frozen them before just to see if they would freeze.
P.S. >> Reese's Puffs don't shoot well either!

Let's see... myths...
- Expensive equipment automatically makes anybody an awesome player
- Cheap equipment makes you a crap player
- HPA is inherently and absolutely better than CO2

Point blank range, they can. I've shattered Heineken bottles with my 98 before (Flatline barrel on, too, so it was shooting at 250 fps). May depend on the strength and type of glass, but I have broken glass before with paintballs.

what would be the porpose of that? they may even stick to the barrel, it would be way easier to get some of those cotton puff balls that are used for arts and crafts. those sure would be fun

You can always clean them out, it's for a ghetto shotgun. The saran wrap is to hold them together in the shape of a paintball. Plus a few dry fires will get the rest of the crap out of the barrel.
I wonder how cigarettes fare when shot out of a marker?
Or spitballs?
