The field owners were actually there helping him but he had the gun when he accidently shot it.
I always tell people to keep their fingers off the trigger when it's not needed because i've accidently shot my marker myself ( on the field of course)

So, I was at a summer camp, and in the middle of the week they had a paintball trip, i had my spyder aggressor, and this other kid brought an Alpha Black. He was braggin' himself up the whole week up till the game. During the game we get into an intense firefight involving about sixteen people, this kid is in the middle of this monstrous firefight. He was using a rental mask and it fogged up on him. So he takes his mask off and he is literally in the direct center of the firefight and he's screamin TIME OUT TIME OUT over and over, the rest of our team is Shouting at him to put his mask on. After the game he starts whining about how everyone kept shooting while he when he was screamin time out. I politely told him that there are no time outs unless someone is seriously injured. The whole rest of the week he would still complain about us bein jerks and that we should stop because his mask was fogged. Jesus.

I think i'd do the same thing and I only reff my own games. After a while it becomes second nature

That instinct never leaves you. All my fields are officiated by field-paid referees. I haven't ref'd in...8? 9 years? And yet I still grab barrels w/o condoms in public areas and scream at players to get their masks on...
Haven't had to dive at anyone yet (as a non-ref)...but I'm certain that day is coming. I just hope it isn't a 10-14year old kid... running at them and diving (and usually taking 1-2 to the back in the process) scares the bejesus out of the kid...and traumatizes them - as you're smothering them to keep their vision/face intact..

I've seen the same thing many times. I always yell at them to get their mask on, I guess some people are too stupid to realize the real danger it puts themselves in.

its not a ref mentality. its a play the damn game responsibly mentality. i volunteered at a field and i got that mentality, but long before that when i was still a renter i'd get mad at idiots

oh - it wasn't criticism, it was just simply the first thing that came to mind after reading your situation.
As Huck pointed out - its responsible player mentality....more or less a learned behavior that happens over time....its also awkward as hell the first time you do it.

Haha. It was me, my brother, cousin all on the same team vs. my dad in woodsball. I was probably 12, cousin 16, brother 14. all of our second games. We had rental 98 customs. so it was us three, and my dad was the last one left on his team. his gun ran out of c02, and it made that *VRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRTT* sound. we didnt know what that was, we thought his gun was firing like 3,000 balls pers second or something, so we jumped into cover. all my dad was doing was pulling his bolt back and making that noise. we sat under cover for 5 minutes until the game was over and realized he was out of balls and air LOL

More of a horror story... almost made me give up paintball before I ever played.... our local field is woodsball... the first time I ever played... (8 or so years ago) I arrived at the field... had my cheap ebay gun... spyder piece o crapé... (paid 15 bucks for it) I get out of my car, decide to watch the first round, see how the game works... round starts.... someone makes a mad dash for a bunker, slides head first.... turns out there are branches in a woods.... (who woulda thunk it???) One of said branches jabbed him in the junk.... actually cut him open.... ended up going to the hospital... 13 stitches to repair the "sac "...
Needed to clarify the slide.... it was more of a superman meets babe ruth..... Mindanao sideways superman would be a better explination....

Reason: clarify the slide

Haha, that's a good one.
This reminded me of a time that I went out, and slid down a hill into a beehive. Not really a noob story, but it was terrible.

I was at my local woodsball field with my summercamp and a few of the kids didn't know proper "etiquette" for paintball. One of the kid take off his mask when he is hit and just walks off the field...... no mask. He whips around to yell I'm out and catches a stray paintball in the eye.

Its unfortunate, but that's exactly what happens when safety and briefings and such aren't grilled into someone's head.. I've seen it happen with my own eyes as well - fortunately I wasn't versed enough to feel guilty for not acting/reacting.

I think one of the best things i have seen a noob do was on a slam packed day at my local field
When this field starts getting full the refs will make 2 games if there is enough people electonic and mechanical. There was one kid with his dads dm12 who was talking big trash. So this kid gets on the field talking trash and when the game begins he shoots his gun at the hip. Just spaying everywhere but not moving at all jist standing at start. I get into snake and turn around to look at my cover man in the corner. He says the kid was standing there without moving just spraying paint. I look up and throw 3 shots his way all of them bounce off his chest. The kid decides to move when i did this but he sprints to 50. The kid makes it to 50 and starts getting shot and wiping hits. So everybody starts calling him out for it. This kid got bunkered with around half a hopper to his mid section. This kid grabs his balls, falls to the ground and starts crying. The ref walks up pulls out his phone takes a picture and tells the kid not to wipe anymore.
