They're pretty crappy, be sure not to spend more than say... $25 on it, at the very most. I'd recommend something along the lines of a Maveric/Trracer/Hammer, those go for about $40-60ish.
There are 12gram CO2 cartridges, yes they are actually 12grams. They are single use, afterwards you throw them away. They cost about 75 cents each, and get you maybe... 10ish shots, depending on a lot of things. I haven't heard of 9gram cartridges, only 12.
