Pump specific strategies

Staying mobile is probably one of the most important advantages that pump/stock class players have over heavy shooters. By packing light on the field you can snap quicker and run faster in addition to carrying less mass for the enemy to shoot at. With your speed try to outflank the enemy and hit them from the side. If you can nail them once they start moving or firing it will add to their confusion.

If the enemy hasn’t seen you yet either advance or wait for him to and hold your fire until you feel reasonable of a sure hit. If you can, move while someone is firing in order to conceal your sound.

Use your lack of firepower as an advantage. Aim to make the first shot count. The majority of experienced players expect to be shot at by a burst and most won’t duck every time they hear a single shot (such as a new player might), especially if they don’t know who the shot is aimed at or from where...
“What are the chances that'll hit me?”
Even if you miss they may not know your exact location so it will be difficult for them to orient themselves effectively behind cover to prevent the next one from hitting. Don’t make any sudden movements and you might be able to fire 2 or 3 before they can counter. I pulled this off against someone 150' in front of me. We were both behind bunkers and even after 5 shots he still couldn't pinpoint my location before being taken out. He wasn't even aware that his mask was exposed to me the whole time since it's harder to track individual paintballs to their source. Occasional firing is the key until you are spotted.

Go with someone- Bring along someone to cover you while reloading or to suppress fire. These and in several other situations pump players would be at a big disadvantage without anyone else to back them up.

If running stock reload whenever you can. Being limited to 10 rounds is bad enough without entering a firefight carrying only ½ of that. This also includes 12 grams. I wouldn’t waste an almost full one just to get back a couple extra shots. If you’ve shot most already (PBs/12Grams), reload as soon as you have a chance, not when you need to. Be quick about it because it usually broadcasts that you are temporarily defenseless and you are likely to be charged.

Don’t carry your 12-grams in one pocket since they will likely rattle while running. If you can’t afford a harness, put one 12gram in each pocket or use a shotgun bandoleer.

Be aware of your surroundings. If you get into a situation and you feel that you will be soon bunkered be ready to shoot the attacker. If he is shooting at you while running towards, don’t be afraid to try to shoot him back. You will have a more accurate aim then he does and might tag him first.

For speedball snap shooting is key, you need to be able to out snap another player if you want to get them out. You can practice this by going out in your yard and putting out a row of cans and bottles. Then find yourself a piece of cover, such as a tree or garbage can. Practice poping out fast and seeing your target then visualize behind your cover where your target is and point your gun at it. When you come out shoot and with practice you will hit your target.

This is awesome. Just what I needed. I'm having a ton of trouble keeping up with semi-users... maybe if I use some of these, I can do better than a 2-3 "kill-death" ratio.

I wholeheartedly agree with mobility and concealment, but also don't be cowed by people with semi's. I regularly stand down people using semi's simply because I'm willing to stand there and take the shot, and if I miss, I take another one. They're expecting you to run from a haphazard volley of paint, so don't. Your marker is different and your mentality should be too. Stand fast, aim (quickly, but not so that you take a wild shot) and then if need be, pump it and aim again. It takes nanoseconds to line up and take a steady shot, so take the time. Somebody that's moving and pulling the trigger as fast as they can is less likely to hit you than you are to hit them by sitting still and taking a couple of measured shots. Usually you can force them back and keep them pinned with only a few shots if you don't take them out with the first or second.

Yupp make EVERY shot count (when not supressing some1). If your snapping that is 1 thing but if your not take that extra 1/2 second to slowly aim and squeeze of the first shot. It has a 80/20 % chance of hitting if both you and your marker are good. Even good players throw 10 rounds (without aiming) of in your direction to pin you sometimes and when they do and you take that 1/2 sec there out and U dinve into protection.

Also the classic bunkering works. from 5 feet you only need 2 shots - its all in the surprise.

I'd like to add:

Just because you are playing pump doesnt mean you cant take advantage of semi markers. If you have team mate with semi's they can help you a lot. Even if they are crappy players they can still hold down the enemy and distract them while you flank and tag from side/behind.

If you are playing pump, especially stock, other players under estimate you and get sloppy if they know it is you that they are in a fire fight with, this means they'll stay exposed longer, they'll make stupid moves, and they'll be loud and not care about concelling themselves. All of which you can use to your advantage.

Also, new players and average players alike will listen to who ever has a good plan and is gonna keep them in a game. And you need them just as much as they need you, so be nice to your team and get them to listen to you to help you make those moves. Most teams will listen to the guy with the most expensive marker or the fancy equipment, but once they get in a game and they are getting hosed and see the stock class guy tearing up the place and helping out, they'll soon change their minds.

Some people treat playing pump and stock as very stealthy and silent, but I tried that and got destroyed. So i tried some new tactics, it seemed i was much more effective if I played the commander role. I'm a very fast running and from playing in the woods ever since i was a kid, i am very good at running in brush and trees. So i usually run from team mate to team mate assuring everything is fine and telling them whats going to happen.

Also the biggest problem with new players is they are afraid and camp, but if they see the guy with pump/stock class moving up, it reassures them that its safe and gets them into the game, not only letting them have a better experience, but it gets your team moving and lets you take control.

playing semi is a gun game. Yes theres other things to it, but it all comes down to using your gun, when i play pump its a mind game, It all comes down to me munipulating the enemy and my team mates.

Woha man U gave me goose bumps when I read that... I've been trying to say that to me PB is a mind game so many times and so many ways but you succeded better then I have so far. Allthough U limited yourself to Pump I bet U play the same way at least partly when U play Semi to.

It definately gives you a rush. The last time I played I broke out my PGP to the sneers of my teammates and enemies. They pretty much told me to go ahead and count myself out. They all changed their story after I took 1/2 of the enemy team down (2 out of 4), one with my first shot and the second by shot 6.

it was talked a lot about whats better Semi or Pump. But thats not the point.
The Effect is much better if the "enemy" got surprised by a pump player while he is sneaking through silence.
Think of being this player. You hear nothing , see nothing, try to get out where he is.....baaaam baaaam , **** , ---H i t ---
you will not forget this.
Its diffrend from tock tock tock tock tock , tock tock tock tock know where it comes from , look ,see ,shoot ,the better one wins. Theres not a Psycologic Effect that shoot with adrenalin on you.

What i also found out is its alot better to play with other pumpers. i was playing with a ranger, like from the army, and he was really good. so if he told me to run somewhere, i ran there. he also listened to me, so we worked well together. Shooting a Scooting is a really important. its alot better to move playing pump, so the enemy has less advantege.

I think if you play just pump you have to be more accurate like a semi.
I fthere are flying 20 balls a second you just hav to watch where the first ball goes to move your hand a little till it goes where you want.
With a Pump, after a shoot you have to pump it . None is able to pump it with hold your Marker and the barrel complete without move. So you have to look where to fire on again. After a while you are more accurate than a semi player. And the rumours about "is a pump mor accurate than a semi" is wrong , but the player is.
How good is it to fire a salve of 20 balls and hit. Fire one and hit , thats good.

Now i am playing in a Pump only team together with one , he is playing the European Championchip with Semis and his Team wins 2004. He says about us, pumplayers he is impressed what we are able to.

Agreed. I think a bit part of that rumor is that usually pumpers take the time to aim instead of randomly shooting in the rough direction and walking the string to the target. This usually causes the pumper to eliminate enemies with far fewer shots.

Im new to paintball and i was thinking, what if you carried around a tank that you could put in if you wanted to use it. I know most pump guns come with teh ability to put in co2.

Also, when playing pump (not stock though) where you have Continuous air and a hopper you can usually roll off a series of shots by holding down the trigger and racking the slide. It should shoot each time you rack the slide fully if your gun has an auto-trigger like the ACI maverick. This is not the most accurate way to shoot, but if you're cornered it is a good way to put up a barrage to make someone duck.

I used to play with a pump in speedball. I loved how I could take out the guys with nicer guns. Its all skill and no spraying and preying. I give some major credit to you guys.
