i'm thinking soon at my birthday or christmas even, i might buy a pgp to use a backup. I was reading an article from stockclasspaintball.com and the guy had an illusion, pgp, and 2 other pump guns, and some games he would just take out his pgp, and suddenly i felt the urge to have another pump gun as a backup and such. I don't want to buy a new bolt or anything, so i should get the older version right? i've heard the newer one has problems with the barrel if it's not brass or nickel plated or w/e and sometimes you need ot buy a new bolt. sound like a good idea to get a pgp and holster, or should i get something else as a backup? i wouldn't want a trracer or maverick again, i kinda like the sidekick. name off any other pump pistols i could buy used for around the same price as a pgp or cheaper. this includes older types too. i like the older ones like the p-68. what old pistols (that shoot accurate) could i get used for under...say..65

pgp's are more like something to putz around with then a backup.but ppl do play in games with so i say go for it.those ppl saying oh you need a new bolt or something
fail to realize you need to pump it each time.theres nuttin wrong with te newer pgps.even if there was wouldnt sheridan do a recall on them?

I've got a new model PGP that I'm very happy with. The issue with the new bolt is to fix a defect in manufacturing for many of them that causes excessive ball breakage. The problem is that the air hole going into the barrel is a bit too far forward, almost resting under the ball. The new bolts (or modified stock ones) are designed to push the paintball forward a little bit past the air hole preventing the breaks. They use a pusher in the middle of the bolt that only actuates when the bolt moves forward otherwise it would prevent the balls from feeding. Since I picked up a Cooper-T EZ pull I've only had one ball break out of hundreds of shots. Another minor problem with the PGP is that a lot of them have a bit of black paint overspray in the front of the barrel. It's nothing a little Mother's mag polish and some elbow grease (or a power drill) can't fix. Once you fix these minor things the PGP is a real respectable marker. I particularly like how they are solid brass... It adds a bit of heft to the gun so it's easier to aim accurately plus brass is a nice a slick surface for the paint to go through. I get about 25 good shots before the velocity starts dropping and usually change the 12 gram by shot 30. It's a fun gun to use as either a primary or a backup. Make sure to get a good holster that'll support the weight easily on your body since it weighs so much. (Like a tactical holster attached to a belt) If I were you I'd go with the newer one if you decide to go the PGP route. It is unfortunate that some of them need the new bolt but the built in PB and 12gram quick changers on the newer one would be seperate purchases if you bought the older one.

I can't speak for the reliability or accuracy of the stockclass sidekick but I've heard nothing but good things about their service. If anything breaks on it you can send it in along with $25 or somewhere around that and they'll fix it then and in the future for free regardless of the cause of the breakage.
D_smalls, they made a semi but stopped production to fix frequent leaking probs, and a couple of pump guns which vary mostly in the feed tube and barrel designs.
