please do not say that the a-5 flatlines are inaccurate. ive seen a-5 flattys that were horribly innaccurat and ones that shot perfect. some people take the time to sit and tune their guns velocity with the flatline. you can tell who has and hasnt tuned their flatline barrel.
i'm just stating my opinion from what i've seen and these people i know do tune theirs

heres the thing iv noticed if you just throw the flatline on your marker it isnt going to a)be very accurate b) is loud and c) doesnt give you an advantage
but if you tune it to your marker it will be as accurate as a budget aftermarket barrel, take the J&J ceramic for example it will be about the same accuracy but the flatline will be about 3x as loud and 3x heavier (and break more paint) not to mention will expand and contract with temperature changes o and its 3+x as expensive
take it from me, iv been around enoufgh markers and played for long enoufgh to know that the people without the flatlines or apex barrels are gennerally more satisfied with what they have, a friend of mine has 8 98c s and a a-5, flatline barrels for both but he doenst use them
o my gosh, ok the flatline and the apex are a joke, they do nothing but add weight to the front of your marker and make it very loud, they give you no distinct advantage over any decent barrel out there that will shoot straight. they are mostly a marketing gimic that is aimed at players who want to stay in the back because they are scared of getting hit.
When you have a tippy or any other slow gun and are shooting 7 bps it's nice to have some distance advantage over people who are shooting 15+ bps. It is sometimes inaccurate but it does add distance, and with right paint it will break. And theres nothing wrong with players wanting to stay in the back, or for woodsball at least. The only thing i like about apex's over flatlines is that when your in VERY wooded areas you can turn it off.

i'm sorry dbone but can i say, full auto tippmann mod in the tippmann section of this forum? 26 bps with a regular spring; and btw mangus' gun pwns yours ; he can full auto with his r/t, so no tippmanns aren't slow guns, stock tippmanns are

ok any normal barrel at its max distence is not horribly accutrate so if you extend that distance and have the ball already spinning it is not going to be magically more accurate
another thing, the a-5 and 98 are not horribly gentel on paint so you cant shoot stuff thats very brittle, thus creating more bounces anyway, and if you slow the ball down, well i think you can see where thats going
i have only heard 1 good argument for ever using the flatline or apex, IF you were at a speedball corse that had multiple small shacks in a row all with windows at the same height, then the flat tragectory of the ball would be very usefull, other than that there is no distict distance advantage and its so loud everyone already knows where you are

True, he can go full auto, but anything over 15 is going to chop like crazy and with a flatline, barrel break too. i want to see a tippmann work at least OK going 27 bps lol, and yes speed wise does pwn mine. BUT most of the people you see playing use tippys without etriggers or r/t, while using the flatline atleast.

The flatline effect doesn't make things more accurate but because of the backspin it isn't as bad, I worked with it pretty well(apex i mean)and I was able to hit people from distances where they couldn't hit me, but the catch was that they have to not be moving, or move at a walking speed. But as for Tippys being rough on paint idk, i dont use them.
The Tippman Alpha Black is an awesome gun. It shoots well, the highest speed at around 350 feet per second. You can also upgrade it to an M-16 and also can add awesome hoppers, red-dot scopes, and a lot more. Go to U.S. Army Paintball: Play Smart - Play Strong you should check it out
I've found my Tippmann A5/RT and flatline combination to be very effective.
My editorial:
- I always use high quality paint matched with a nicely tuned setup (275-280fps, reasonable trigger speed setting), so I do not experience shredded paint issues.
- I'm not a girl (or built like one), so the weight of the A5 equipped with a flatline barrel isn't a problem -- btw, no offense to girls.
- I tend to play close enough to ensure breaks (no bounces) -- get to the outer range of any marker's distance and your paint won't break.
- When I do experience minor problems (o-ring issues, etc.) , my Tippmann is very easy to fix.
- I would suggest rolling w/ Nitro instead of CO2 if you are playing in cold weather.
Anyhow, I like my set-up a lot and wouldn't trade it for anything else available (at the moment).
I'm a Beginner/Intermediate player who doesn't know much about repairing very complicated paint guns looking to upgrade from my $50.00 spyder p.o.s.
I like to play both woodsball and speedball evenly and tend to be an aggressive player rather than to sit in the back wasting my rounds I am often seen trying to sneak up on bunkers held by the opposing team.
just because of that, i would say A5 but... if you like to play both woodsball and speedball, Tippmann 98 might be better since... it is much lighter...
