Keep those elbows in!

recball in oklahoma city.... indoor speedball.

i can't remember the name of the place, but it is the only indoor speedball place in town to my knowledge.

after my 2nd game, my brother commented on how i wasn't keeping a small enough profile when i poked out of a bunker. to me it felt like i was. i was keeping my gun low and only the top half of my facemask was sticking out.

by the end of the 4th game i had been shot in both bicepts on the insides of my arms (medial). i guess that all the years of shooting a shotgun had caught up with me. i didn't realize it, but when i was poking out, my elbows were sticking way out.... they took a pic :P

so the moral of the story is, listen to your brother and get people to video u or take pics of you when they say you are doing somthing wrong. you can get into bad habbits and not even know it.

as for the rest of the day, i ended up with more kills than deaths, and my team ended up winning 2/3 of the games we played, overall it was a great time and a learning experience.

1. Paintball isn't hunting.
2. You don't kill.
3. You don't die.
4. You shouldn't "poke" out of the top of any bunker.

I'm surpised you didn't say they spawn camped you.

dude, get a life. i was trying to write an informative post telling people to watch their form. then you come in here flaming me trying to make me look stupid. i don't appreciate it at all. i know the differences and i surely don't need some 14 year old kid telling them to me.

im not some uber leet sniper, i know what the heck im doing and if you can't find anything better to do than come on here and pick at the way people word things then you need to go somewhere where u are appreciated. go play paintball or somthing insted of just sitting here on your comp thinking you know it all.

That's supposed to be informative? I don't know how things are run across the pond, but when somebody doesn't even take the time to use proper grammar most people won't take them seriously.

I'll ignore the age comment because how you handled yourself against my "flame" is satisfying enough.

EDIT: I thought it was UK, not OK. Lame.

Was he playing CSS or something?
That is what came to mind when I read this.

I am pretty sure he got this from the semi-finals with Naughty Dogs against XSV i think it was where one player had his head out for most of the round just looking for people.

Actually dude, i was gonna say the same this as big_balla, perhapse im just sensitive, but we need to choose our words carefully in order to promote a positive image for the sport, we are still looked down upon, even though we've made great strides, but still, try to pay attention and correct yourself and others. Marker, not gun. Eliminations, not kills. Eliminated, or marked, not killed. just little things like that. thanks for keeping that in mind when you talk from now on!

1. I've played paintball off and on for 8 years. I've rarely, if ever, heard about a problem of people looking down on paintballers. The only problem I've heard of about this is WHERE people play and if they're allowed to play there.

2. You guys just sounded like real jerks. You're on the rec (that's short for recreational) ball part of the forum burning some guy because he used the word kill? I, as a recreational player, read his post and appreciated his advice and personally don't care what words he used. Nothing he said made me think hunting other than him saying he had habits from shooting a shotgun. Sounds to me like some uppity morons who's parents bought their guns and play paintball (mostly speed ball I'm sure) as a trend. You'd rather talk about the politics of the game than go play it. The same type of stuck up idiots that might say "that guns ok... for a Spyder'. Knowing good and well Spyder is one of the best entry level guns out there for the best price, and a great gun for somebody not willing or able to spend a fortune on a GUN when all they want to do is play woodsball and a little speedball with friends.

YOUR KIND OF PEOPLE are ruining the image of paintball. It used to be friends getting together all day in the woods when basic Spyder Semis cost over $200. And some of the best fun was coming out of the woods after the game was over and talking about who "KILLED" who.

Now there is correct and incorrect language to use when referring to paintball? Stupid.

I love the assumptions you make.

Of course, he owns a nice gun, so his parents had to have bought it for him, right? He plays tournament paintball, so he is an arrogant 12 year old who has everything handed to him, right?

I don't know why you brought Spyders into this thread at all. That argument has no place in this thread, and is totally irrelevant to anything happening here.

Yes, there are important politics to paintball. We're trying to get rid of the image that most people see paintball as. We're trying to not look like a bunch of people running around with facepaint on 'killing' each other in the woods, we're trying to bring up the image of paintball being an organized sport.

We don't use 'guns' to shoot our 'paint bullets' to get 'kills', we use markers to eliminate other players.

How is he ruining the image of paintball? By trying to get people like you, who are ruining our image by using words that make the sport sound dangerous to stop using those words?

Yes, there is.

Want to explain to me how it is stupid to try and get our sport respected by the 'outside' world?

No, it is Your. “You’re” is always a contraction of “you are.”

He wouldnt say 'YOU ARE kind of people are ruining the image of paintball.'

So, if you read it one way but it was typed another. Why would you call him out on that?

You've played for 8 years and havent heard any negative comments about paintball? do you play under a rock?? Have you ever talked to the parent of a perspective new player? if you use that kind of language, no parent would let thier kid play. political correctness sucks, but it's what makes us look so shiney and clean.

You dont have to tell us what rec means. No one is killed in paintball and if you think or say they are you deserve a burn. I am most definately not an 'uppity moron who's parents bought him a gun and plays paintball (mostly speed ball I'm sure) as a trend.' My parents have NEVER bought any of my equipment, i have worked HARD for all i have. Ive been in the woods for five years now and have finally worked hard enough to play speedball for a team, on my own merit. Since when has speedball been a trend? if i'm not mistaken it's the largest growing part of the sport with actual buisnesses, and television coverage, not something that happens with a trend. and the politics are VITAL in anything that involves firearms (paintball markers as firearms is debateable, but most non-ballers ee them as such).

I own a spyder, i own TWO spyders, they are great guns for thier price range, but all in all not great guns. a gun may be good for a spyder, but it may still suck overall. The same can be said for all guns that are not profesional level guns, that may be a great cocker, but it still sucks compared to an Angel, or a Dyanasty Marker. The point is still moot because it has nothing to do with the topic at hand anyways.

No, YOUR kind of people are ruining paintball, the people who are out 'killing' eachother with thier 'guns' playing 'wargames' in my experience these are also the same idiots who shoot up houses and random people and get the press all uppity about the dangers of paintball.

absolutely! Gun = Marker Kill = Elimination Killed = Eliminated Bullets (ammo) = Paint

In fact i would like to direct everyones attention to this 1985 Nightline broadcast that talks about paintball, if it dosent make your stomach turn with the way they're portraying the sport then you need to check to make sure youre really as comitted to the sport as you say you are. (Clip got cut a little short because the upload site only allows for 5 min. videos. origional duration: 6:13. click the picture to watch the video)

That's fine, guys. I figured more people would stand up for the guy. The reason I spelled out rec means recreation, is because the guys in here just play. They play for fun. It's a social thing or an exercise thing or a hobby to get out of the house and in the sun. They put on their camo or ragedy clothes instead of JT uniforms. They don't want to come in a forum and post their helpful opinion and let everyone know how excited they were when they played a game to get picked on for saying "poked" or "guns".

And no, every time I mention paintball to somebody, I get neutral or good responses. The only people I've come across that are scared or consider it dangerous are women. No disrespect, I've played with girls and have been "eliminated" by them too, but that's my observation about more feminine women that haven't tried it. That's it. Every guy I've talked to about it, including my dad and other older men, were like "wow, what's it like? Can I come play?" Even that video was in the 80's. Things have changed and paintball has come a long way. There's always going to be somebody out there that thinks we're stupid for doing what we do. But I convinced the company I worked for, including all but two women, to go play paintball instead of going bowling. And guess what the other group we played against was... a church.

It's been done. Paintball is out there. It's getting more mainstream. It's being covered on TV. Of course you don't want to say kill or wound on TV, but a rec player should be told a little more sensitively, instead of being picked on. THAT made YOU look bad. I love speed ball and enjoy watching it if I can catch it on TV. But you have to remember where it came from too. It's a recreational sport. A game. It hasn't and will not reach the level of more common sports. There won't be a commissioner who makes the traveling players where suits on the road for good clean publicity.

It's fine that you want to use certain lingo and teach people that lingo. But don't shove it down their throat. Make a thread and ask for it to be stickied. Call it paintball lingo, or the language of paintball or something. That way newbs will know what you're talking about when you say stuff like marker with eyes and paint a rope and electro and all the other stuff i'm still deciphering while getting back into it after some time off from playing.

And really, I kinda miss being "the paintball guys". So many people do it now (including rich kids) that I don't feel like my friends and I are doing something different anymore. I like that it's popular and there is always somewhere to go, but I miss having a set day to drive out to the powerlines and meet your group of the only 10 people you know with "markers" to play for hours on end.
