Getting back into the sport, need a new gun for rec ball.
I played paintball for years (mainly rec-ball a few speedball tournies) and just kind of fell out of the sport and sold all my gear...around the time when the Angels and electronic guns first started hitting the scene. Anyway I'm thinking about getting back into paintball and it appears there are like 10x more markers out there these days, all with many features and around the same prices.
I got a decent budget (would prefer to spend maybe $500-700 on the marker itself, but willing to go up to $1200). What would be the best marker for me? I'm looking for something that's easy to maintain, will do great in rec-ball, has upgrades and aftermarkets easily available if I ever wanted to make it better, but otherwise great out of the box and I wouldn't have to fool with too much of it (I used to run a autococker and I just don't have the patience for timing markers anymore and things like that). Any recommendations? Thanks.

you're in luck! basically any marker is mantience free these days and there's literally hundreds to choose from.
your best bet is to figure out what style you want and go from there. there's a poppit valve marker that runs effecient, but a little bit of a kick or a spool valve that sucks on air but is smooth as butter.
So much has been released since you last played that I'm not sure where to even begin to direct you; thouhg I will say that buying a amrker that's 2-3 years old is definately the way to go/ the resale value of paintball things has dropped ot nearly nothing and ther'es plenty of increddibly markers being sold for pennies just so people anc buy the new big things.

If you got that kind of budget, I'd get a good 4500psi HPA tank, thats a must.
Also, any high-end hopper is a good idea as well. VLocity, Halo, Reloader B/B2, Torque, Magna, JRNY, etc.
I envy your budget... You could potentially buy just about anything on the market...

tippmann a5 with egrip egrip is alot better than the respnse trigger and only a little more exspensive. it is good by itself for 260 (thats including factory installed egrip) but i have that with the opsgear.com (great website) saw kit, 16 inch m4 barrel, bipod and 450 round offset hopper and a scope (really only for spotting the enemy since i ussually stay back to protect the flag. it will all only cost around 8 - 900 dolars

The A-5 is not a gun that he wants, I can tell you that right now...
Another sad case of "I like my gun, so everyone should get it too!"

Get an E-Mag, Crossfire 68/45 HPA tank, a Halo B w/ Rip Drive or a Vlocity loader, and a 14" Dye Ultralite barrel. Also an NXe pack, NXe makes great packs.
If you dont like the E-mag, get a Bob Long Intimidator, or a Marq.

I would recommend a Bob Long Vice with a HaloB and 45/4500 HPA tank. This will give you an absolutely rocking setup that you wont really need to worry about upgrading much at all.

Thanks everyone for your help so far.
Right now here is what i'm debating
PM8 $750
PM7 $600
Bob Long Vice $750...sadly none of the stores around me carry the vice so it'd be a blind buy online.
Any recommendations?
Where's a good place to shop for used guns online (besides eBay)?
Thanks.

Actionvillage is always good place to look and there is also buypbl.com and amazon. Just do a search on google and you will find plent of places that buy painbtall gear.

I'd agree that Action Village is probably about the best source for doing your shopping, although great deals can be found on other sites as well. Of course, I checked before writing this and AV doesn't have a single PM8 in stock.
As far as gun selection, exactly what kind of play are you going to be participating in the most? Speedball? Running around in the woods? Fun on someone's property involving some trees, some cars, and some spools? A combination thereof?
The reason I ask is that I was wondering if gun color will play a role in your selection. If you are doing a lot of woods stuff, the Vice is only available with gloss finishes (to the best of my knowledge). The PM's can be had in an olive drab color.
If color isn't an issue then either of the three is a good choice. Something else to consider is you are wanting a PM is that the money saved by buying a PM7 instead of a PM8 could fund the purchase of an UltraLite frame. The Vice is a great gun as well. I think the PM may have the edge as far as accuracy, while the Vice is probably a bit more efficient. Of course, I'll also make my suggestion of a Shocker (although few on this board are Shocker fans). Stock NXT's are now $600 and the private label guns are $700.
Lots of great guns available in your price range. Hard to go wrong with any of your choices.
