Ions are quite cheap and very realiable, they are also a very fine marker IMO. I know alot of people bash them but for the price they are great

a spyder vs2 will be the best value spyder that money can buy you. they're also great markers. A bit heavier and bulkier than the ion, but nice just the same.

either a used ion or a new vs2, you can get a vs2 with a tado board (basically a spyder rsx) for $95 now

I hear smart parts vibe is a good gun. Although around here it costs 199.99 + tax so I'm not sure that is in your range for a backup... then again a vs2 there costs 95 here a vs1 is 149.99 on sale

The vibe is an alright entry level, but i wouldn't keep it as a backup. It's not the fastest nor the greatest, doesnt have eyes but a low force bolt and SP claims it will not chop. It's light though, and can use both CO2 and air so that's basically the only plus it has.

I'd keep an slg as a cheap backup.

I'd honestly rather a Vibe to a SLG as a backup. It's not the greatest, no, but I'm really not a fan of the SLG.

Brass air fittings

Now that is a lot of brass air fittings Wholesale Tools With Free Shipping World Wide From China Distributor there is just about every type
of air fitting that you could want. Wholesale prices too. I guess these could be used as small water pipe fitting also. I
used some of the parts to make my babington wvo burner.

a back up gun should be mechanical. you don't want to pull your backup out of the bag and find dead batteries. and if it starts raining... mechanical backup.

Unless you've messed up the grips on your marker, you will experience issues with paint before you experience issues with a control board due to rain.

And if you use electros, you should always have spare batteries on you. I carry 3 or 4 spares whenever I go. Vibe still gets my vote for a fairly good, inexpensive backup.

what are you using as a primary? may just want to replace that and then use it as a backup

for a backup id personally go with something that is still in production as parts for the pm/dm lines are harder to find parts for every year. Id look into the PMR

Thematrixcenter.com should supply the parts he would need.

Ions are great backups.
