would you let someone throw a M-80 at you? of course not. would you let someone throw an explosive several times that size at you? hell no you wouldnt.

flashbangs are explosives. they arent non lethal, they are LESS than lethal. that means they could still kill someone.

And when the wind is blowing, you throw it(the smoke grenade) in the direction to were the smoke will blow in the direction you plan on moving to.

Not actually true.
There are many different types of flash-bang grenades, with different levels of energy.

They can be generalized into 2 catagories: Disposable and reusable.
The reusable variety is plastic, and contains a simple mixture of aluminium powder. When thrown, the powder shoots out of the can, and fills the air.
It mixes with oxygen, and THEN is ignited OUTSIDE OF THE CAN.
These kind are the least leathal, and have no shrapnel. They can be refilled and reused.

The disposable kind work similar, except the explosion happens INSIDE the canister. The grenade is usually steel with an aluminium top. The explosion blows out with top, and represents a minimal amount of shrapnel. These types HAVE killed people, and are not usually used by police. They are however popular with military and paramilitary groups (ATF, DEA, etc), since they have a stronger "stun" capacity.

REGARDLESS. We both agree. NEITHER type is sutable for paintball.
If you really wanted the "sound effect" that simple fire-crackers might work, though they are not legal in my state.

Flashpowder in a VERY VERY VERY compressed form might do the trick.

Someone threw a homemade smoke grenade at my local field- he smuggled it in. They don't allow anything but the Tippmann regualr paint ones. One of the guy's friends saw it land, and it didn't go off immediately. This stupid kid that it would be funny to throw it back, so he ran out to pick it up. As his hand went down to it, it blew up! Burned his hand/arm pretty bad, and gave the field some serious trouble.

Anyways, just saying to be careful if you make your own. Make sure they smoke- not blow up.

geez that was pretty dumb on both parts 1 for the kid that brought it and 2 for the kid that tried to throw it back but thats probably something i would have tried to do lol i hope the kid is ok though

The often quoted method is equal amounts (of molocules) of sugar and pottasium nitrate (KNo3).
You don't have to melt them. It will still work powedered, but not as well.

The method I've used was to carmelize the sugar in a microwave, then quickly mix in the KNo3 before it turned solid.
This worked perfect, but the problem is it shoots OUT A HUGE FLAME making it very bad for paintball, unless your carefull WHEN, WHERE and HOW you throw it.

KNO3 is sold in pharmacies as "Salt Peter" and lawn/garden stores as "Nitrate of Potash". Its also the main ingredient in stump-remover, which can be used.
Its getting hard to find, and you can substitue Sodium nitrate, which is very common. Often called "Nitrate of Soda" (NaNO3). Its usually $5 for 5lbs.
You could convert NaNO3 to KNO3, but there is no need if your just making a smoke bomb.

But, again, not really good for paintball. You can get military-grade smoke bombs through a variety of army/navy stores, or pyrotechnics-grade over the internet. Plus, if you use the "anarchist cookbook" method, you WILL burn down your kitched.

I go to boot camp in janurary, so no not yet, thats why i say USMC PROPERTY, b/c i'm their and the governments property right now, when i graduate boot camp i'll be a MARINE. Are you joining the marines??? huh, are you going to fight for your country and people?? Are you gonna fight along side your brothers?? dont get an attitude with me. So NO i'm not a poser! I dought that a flash bang gives off no shrapnel. It is metal, it explodes..........What do you think happens to the outside of the thing when it explodes? It desinigrates? If your going to get smoke grenades just by some of those mammoth smoke things. They dont burn very hot. Just wick when you first light it. You could probably hold it in your hand. Can get them pretty much any where that sells fireworks.

I saw a Presentaion from the SWAT team in my area, My Uncles Colligues
They had FlashBangs, The Real thing Like Government issue type stuff. They said that the casings are made of Plastic, so they wont kill you if it is siting in your lap when it goes off, it will just BURN you pretty bad. When they Place these things they make sure that they are on a Hard surface that wont easily burn. They said that they WILL always burn a Carpet or Couch or something if it goes of on it
So as everybody says dont use flashbangs

I've seen theses smoke bombs in Conveinece Stores, they dont burn hot at all, you just light the wicks and throw them, They even had mustard gas ones They were only about 5 bucks for 6 of them

Yeah, I think this stuff from the Convenience store waqs toned down

But leathal mustard gas...I think you cant breathe in it and it is suppose to make your eyes water and sting badly, because it is MUSTARD GAS, can you imagine shooting mustard into your eyes?
