Really good post.
I only have one beef with it though, and that's only because I'm anal, so you can go ahead and brush it off.

You can't buy real USMC MARPAT unless you join the Corps. Or you buy it from ebay. If you have a friend in the Corps, ask him or her to go to the local base's commissary and hook you up with some REAL MARPAT. The stuff is great.
|
The commissary is the grocery store. What you should have said was the Px.

I always thought you could pick up stuff like that at a commissary too. Whatever, I'll edit. What does Px stand for? Learn somethign new every day.

Alpha i'm not flaming you, so dont go a report me AGAIN. I'm suppose to be nice to you from now on.
But you say dont use burlap in your ghillie???? Why, that's what a ghillie is. Burlap as a base, and then you put vegetation here and there to totally break your outline up.
And yeah change it to Px.
Remember, I'm not flaming you, just asking a question.

Paintball is too fast paced to be stalking around and constantly changing vegetation. Where I play if I was to use a ghillie, I'd have to change vegetation every 20 feet. That takes time. Better off using cover of natural bunkers.
AS far as burlap is concerned, yes you need to use it, but a ghillie suit isn't just flaps of burlap hanging off your pants.

Now remember i'm not flaming you, we're just having a nice friendly convo.
Just becuase you say you cant use a ghillie where you play doesnt mean nobody else can.
And a ghillie is a TOOL. A pair of bdu's, hat, & veil or whatever you prefer. With netting sewn on, burlap and jute tie on the netting. With "Strategically" placed pockets, accesories, & mesh vents (for ventilation). Front covered in canvas, or cordura...blah blah blah. That's basically WHAT a ghillie is.
Remember we're just talking. "spreading information to people...."

I would love to see someone show up to a game in ghillie. that would be so funny, hell he'd probably end up shooting me cuz I'd be laughing uncontrollably.

We did some Scenarios where we had some guys playing "sniper" roles. Note the quotation marks. One guy actually pwned everyone, I'm quite serious, he went in early and layed up in a ditch where heavy traffic was found. Guy layed there as four walked buy, then the straggler who was watching for flankers went buy, this was over the course of fifteen minutes. His team flushed back the oncoming five man troop, they fell back and was directly infront of him, where he through a tippmann grenade at them, and popped off three shots before he was completely shredded with paintballs. took out three of the five.

We play a sniper game a fox4 paintball.. Three snipers go up in the back wall of the town and you have to shoot the snipers in the head to eliminate them. WEll, it came down to me running out of paint and surrendering like 4 rushers by screaming at them and dry-firing.

man, thats the thing. I'm being serious right now, not being a dick, or flaming anyone...serious at the moment...
I dont play the usual "go hide and wait steriotype style of play". I either lead my team to the other team, or am opposite of them, and clean the place up.
Example: 5 man team (us) against 7 man team (opposing team)
I lead my team to the other team. We saw them moving around. (2-3 minutes) i told them to hold, and for 3 to go to the right to pick off the ones that would be running from me. Anyway, they hold, untill i do my work. And one remaining to go left and cover me, if there are some other players that try to flank to our left. (this all takes 30-60 seconds.) I crawl up (at the most 2 minutes), and pick one off, two went running to the right, and stopped behind some trees, and get into a firefight with the 3 i sent to the right, i try and crawl up to them, and start shooting to push them out..they walk out into a lane shooting at the 3, not knowing im there, one of my guys gets one and i got the other one. Then me and the 3 guys go to our left to get back into it. (1-2 minutes) Meanwhile the 3 remaining on the opposing team are laid up back where i got my first one. My coverman is shooting suppressive fire and they see us work our way back, and two take off to the left, but just run and hide. My coverman gets the one that stayed but gets hit by one of the running players. So i tell one to stay behind, and the other one goes in the direction they ran and i follow, we hear some noise quite a distance away and he goes to find out what it is, and i keep going straight b/c we seen a mask, i crawl up and he just laying there and doesnt see me, i shoot him. (1 minute) Meanwhile the man that went out gets out, they set up an ambush...and shot him. then come looking for me and my last team mate. I head back and lay up 30 yards from him (my team mate). I see him run foward and shooting like a mutha, and hes getting shot at too. and i just spray paint infront of him, he gets one out, and the other disappeared. (2-3 minutes) We fall back, and wait in a really good spot. Cleaning our maskes and etc... cuz its hot, and getting pretty fogged up. And we hear someone coming up on us, and we just listen for a looooong time (5 mintues or so.) We are behind tons of thick brush so nothing getting in, and we can shoot out and hit anything. He peeks around and shoots in the direction of the noise and the other guys starts shooting back and trys to rush us. He gets up close and goes left and stops. (right now hes like 5 feet away, we and him dont even no it, we cant see crap because of the brush), then we catch a glimpse of him, and we spray it like a "mutha" and hes out. (1-2 minutes)
all these players were good, and it was a good face off...
so its not, go and wait for someone to come along. Its just being aggressive but stealthy and quiet at the same time. It's fun, b/c your constanly coming out of nowhere and hitting them. It's just a basic tactics of hit, and change position, and hit again (not the exact tactic i used in my example, but i wont type another for your guys sake...)
B/c if you just went out and sat, you would get someone out, but thats b/c you might be the last player of your team left, or you might be in the direction the other team is coming, but yeah lets say you shoot one thats coming your way, the others are gonna know your there now, there's no element of surprise...and it gets old. I've played that way a couple of times, but almost always play the other way. But one thing that is cool when your taking a break or something is going out and hiding, (and not just going out in some random direction either, b/c they would never find you)....anyway i give them a general direction and have them come look for me. To see how good they are at spotting me, i usually surprise the hell out of them... It's entertaining, and fun when there is nothing else to do.
Anyway just my 0.02 cents

i walker pass a guy once in a big game and i had like 10 more guys with me, if i was alone i would have be taken out so yes there can be snipers to a point. i like to stay with a group of guys and then branch off and go move around the enemy and try to pick them off with out them seeing me, so im a sniper in a way and we are all a sniper at one point in time

You see, there are snipers in paintball. But the thing is that noobs give the idea of "Sniping" so much stupidity and unrealness that it's thought of unreal. So many older players have been trying to convince that there is. But those who think there isn't "sniping" are not believing it. Which leads to many different arguments over it. It's like comparing apples and oranges or something of that sort of which is totally differential.

This is how I'm seeing it.
Old school players see a sniper player as really, a one man flank group.
Newbies, a sniper = guy with bigass gat wit'a scope!

you can role play a sniper in a paintball game, but that's about it
of the things that make a sniper - killing with pinpoint accuracy from a great distance while concealed - only shooting while concealed is possible in paintball. so, you can be a concealed shooter but that's as close as you will get.

Sniping has nothign to do with distance. ITs all in the concealment. However, putting a mile between you and the person your shooting with will give you utmost stealth. And of course you need ot have pinpoint accuraccy.

True. I agree with you totally in all points of the prospective of which you are looking at. It's just the idea of telling that to hordes of noobs who do not understand what we're speaking of. And to those who watch movies and think that flying in the air is real for example. Get me?

Ok, so if you hide and wait for someone then shoot them in the back of the head with a handgun that's sniping?
