Basically there are generally 2 flags. One at your base, and one at the other teams base. It is your job to 1) eliminate all the other players so you can waltz in and get the flag, or 2) you sneak into thier area and get the flag.
The other derivation is called "center flag". In that scheme there is only one flag and it is placed in the center of the arena. The same 2 points as above apply except here you are trying to get the flag back to your base.
Now -- To confuse you only slightly more.. the terms "pull" and "hang" are not interchangeable. In some scoring schemes you get points for both pulling the flag (getting it from the other teams side or from the center) and then also get points for hanging the flag at your base.
