I use Stargate SG1 Patches ~,~ with my desert BDU's. The things that tend to bother active duty / reserves are the ranks. If I am right its illegal to have officer insignia's on uniforms that isnt worn by an officer or retired officer.
Personally I just wear the bdu's cause they are kew not like they actually help. Specially Desert BDU's in woodland terrain.

I don't think it's a big problem. I have alot of Screaming Eagle stuff and my friends have told me to put my Wehrmacht(actual Nazi POW Wehrmacht patch) on what I go paintballing in but I want to preserve it. I'll probally just end up wearing my 101st airborne pin. <--- WW2 buff
You won't se them anyway, after I hit ya' a couple a times!
Ya ok.... sure...
Wearing the patches is not "wearing the uniform". Cripes how many of us had an OD green shirt that said ARMY on it when we were 5? It would be a different story if you had the full od or camo with the appropriate patches in an attempt to look as if you are in the military.
But I guess it doesn't really matter. People don't get all fired up when you dress up as a Doctor and stuff for halloween, so I don't think I would get all that fired up about someone wearing a marine BDU shirt with a few patches.
Oh and Alpha - the UCMJ only applies to currently enfranchised military members, not to the general public. So it doesn't really apply at all.
But yeah, if your not in the military, don't wear the uniform. DO NOT walk the walk.
You seem to try to walk the walk a lot around here bud. You're not in the military, don't try it.
Anyways, my Grandpa was in the Army, and my other grandpa was in the air force, and they don't care if I wore patches back in the woodsball days. They thought it was neat that I wanted to go out and imitate them or something like that.
Now that I'm enlisting, I really wouldn't care either. It's just a patch. But, if they want to wear a medal (fake most likely) especially something like a purple heart (for you non-military types out there, that's being injured by enemy fire, you get a medal for it) or like a Silver Star or something, then I would have to ask them to take it off. It's not like it's disrespectful or anything, just you did nothing to earn that, and it could offend a soldier who DID earn his Purple Heart or Silver Star.
I don't act like anythign but a JROTC cadet who is eager to join the Marine Corps. I get pissed off when people make comments like that. I do not try to walk the walk. People try to make it look like I walk the walk.
When you join the military, you are serving your country. The most recognizable thing abotu a serviceman or woman is the uniform. By wearing the uniform, your trying to be something your not.
If you've got an SG-1 patch and a tab above it that says SKIRMISH or something like that (I've seen a lot of scenarioballers with tons of tabs from different games), then fine. But when you start wearing unit patches, and even the American Flag patch as worn by servicemembers, your wrong.
I'd just like to add my two cents. If a person's wearing military camo and some random patches to give them a "soldier" look, I don't see why that's a problem. However, if they're got it setup so they could "pass" as a soldier, then I can see why people like Alpha would be ticked off.
I dont see anything wrong with wearing unit patches...
Next time we should argue about how wearing football jerseys with players names is wrong. They earned the right to wear those jersey's too.
I know the comparison isnt dead on, but i dont think the people in the military really care...they should be happy that they have kids supporting them.
When the war on iraq started, we started wearing either mock military uniforms or t-shirts- both saying."Support our troops"...A man came through my line and said how happy he is that people are supporting the soldiers..he said he was spit on and cursed at when he came back from Vietnam. It really touched him that we were showing our support for the U.S. military.

WEaring a T-shirt that says support the troops and wearing woodland camo with your last name taped on the top of the pocket and U.S. ARMY on the other. And wearing a 82nd patch and the reverse American Flag is much different.
I agree with Alpha. If you just wanna spice up your camo fine, but if you try to make it look like you served and go all out then i could see a potential problem.

Who the hell does that? I'd understand it for reinactment purposes but... I'd just wear a patch or two on a jacket depending on what side I usually play as with my friends.
I don't play paintball, I'm here trying to figure out if I want to or not, but if it were me, I'd either wear camo without patches, or find someone to make patches specifically for paintball, but with a "military" look. Thoughts?
ARticle 134 UCMJ, impersonating an officer. I believe its 134.. I know a few of the more common UCMJ articles.
About that one of my friends dad is in the military, and he has a few jackets of some camo MARPAT? ive heard that name be used, anyway he has a few patches on them, and when we go outside and play paintball in the ones that dont have patches on them. One day i put one on that had some stuff on it and when we came back that day he gave everyone a lecture on impersonating an officer ^ ^ ^ and how it was illeagal (sp?)
its not illegal to wear a full military uniform around..so then are the retired military officers not allowed to wear their stuff..i.e..patches, coats, and uniforms, because if they were discharged, they are no longer officers.

Well 1. You definetly want to play paintball.
2. , Get some SG1 patches. do a google.
EDIT: To vision impy:
They are retired. When a president is no longer president, you still call them president. JROTC instructors are usually retured. Mine's a retired Lt.Colonel, and we call him Col. Same with our Master Sgt. We call him Sergeant. They both wear air force blues.
What I think the threadmaker had in mind was the 500 pound middle aged guys who play paintball and wear cammies with military patches and walk around trying to act cool. They are the true wannabies. I am a wannabie... But these guys can't join the military becuase they are eithe rtoo old or have a physical condition prohibiting them to...
Ok, if the guy cared soo much about his hard earned patches then he wouldnt have given them to the salvation army so other people could buy them, besides its not like its a medal or something!
i respect the troops that are over in iraq, RISKING LIFE AND LIMB so WE have the ABILITY and FREEDOM to sit here and argue about this topic. I think if you wear one then its ok but dont go out and outfit your camo to look like a military personal, if your in a scenario its a differnt story but i mean come on if you really care so much for our troops go to a place and give $20 to the army fund and i agree if the person didnt care enough about the medal to give it to the salvation army then support our troops and buy em and wear em. GOD BLESS AMERICA
