QEV installed on ION
hey guys, I installed QEV tonight. I used an extra fitting that would allow me to quick disconect the pneumatic line. (instead of a barb) I also used teflon tape for my install of the QEV and set the dwell to 7. there was mild FSDO at 7 so I upped it to 8. will chrono tomorrow.

I had to cut a little of the body, but I don't really think that anyone doing this mod will mind. If anyone needs these fittings I can get about 80 more on short notice. any more and I will have to order them.

that looks like a tight squeeze to get the hose off.....is it as hard as it looks?
which qev did you use(brand)? and who make the where you can remove the barb?

the guy on nation used a clippard. mine was a palmers (had in my tool box). the barbs unscrew from the QEV. infact most QEV's that I have bought don't even come with a barb, you have to take the barb off your ram to install. the fitting is 10/32 thread w/ a seal ring, no locktite needed.
I had to cut a little of the shell to make if fit nice and tight, but it is a very easy on off process now. The hose was a little long so I had to cut just a little off to keep it from kinking. but install is a breeze. just push the line in and you are done. To remove just compress the fitting and slide out the hose. The best part is that it fits perfectly into the grip frame. no mods needed other than cutting the body and adding some teflon to the QEV. The palmers have an oring, but it was not able to compress enough and after a few shots would start to leak, So I added teflon.

i believe it relieves back pressure against the bolt as it returns, thus taking less air to recock. so, you use less air, and you can decrease your dwell time (amount of time noid is open) and extend your shots per tank.
someone agree with me....i think i got it right.

on the ION since it is blow forward the operating pressure of the gun is sitting at the back of the bolt ready to fire. when you fire, 180 psi propels the bolt forward, when it is fully forward the air is then released down the bolt and out the chamber fireing the ball. The noid then kicks into action and pushed the bolt back and the pressure in the hose holds the bolt back until you fire it again. When you fire it again the 180 psi is having to push against the pressure that is holding the bolt back. that air would normally vent at the bottom of the noid. (just like on a cocker the ram vents at the 3 way.) the duration of time that it takes the bolt to move forward would be the DWELL.
By placing a QEV at the port that would push the bolt back it creats an instant vent for the air that needs to be released to move the bolt forward.
Long story short I lowered my dwell from mid 40's to 8. it will allow the marker to cycle faster and be more efficient. I will report back how much more efficient later.
Pup had it right, I just can't use less than 1000 words.

it will also eliminate grease buildup on the noid which can cause FSDO

i sure hope you get those three back. hopefully that was just a freak accident due to some truck tailers rather than people who constantly steal pb stuff and are targeting you. get a camera. lol.
