ION Ball Breakage
Hey guys, I'm really pissed off right now. I've gone to 3 team practices, and 1 tournament with my ion, an it is just not working right. It is chopping about 1 in every 4 balls. I have tried just about everything. I took the whole thing apart, and cleaned every bit of it. I even called a SP Tech, and he said it was my detents. So I ordered NDZ detents, and installed the springs correctly, but it is still chopping. I also reset my dwell/ROF. It is set at 40 Dwell, 8 ROF. I am seiously starting to get mad, I mean; I've wasted about 300 Dollars in paint on this thing, and I haven't even gotten to play to my fullest potential with it yet. Do you guys have any clue on what it may be? Any input/info will be greatly appreciated.

Is it chopping in the breech, or breaking in the barrel?
And are you using a halo b, or reloader b?

I shot Pink Premium, Red Draxxus Blaze, Blue Premium, and thats it. No, the halo is the only hopper I have used on it.

its not the hopper, its not the paint. stop suggesting random things, especially if you havent thouroughly worked on an ion.
check if the eyes are turned on. also check the eye wires for any damage(broken, pinched, etc..)
if that dosent work, then
replace both o-rings in the breech.
check dwell, w/o qev at 45-52, with qev at 8-20
then check operating pressure, keep an average of 120-150.

If you are breaking paint in the breach, it sounds like the eyes are not functioning properly.
I agree with running riot.........check your wires and make sure they are not pinched or cut. air you rmarker up.........leave the eyes on and dry fire it in ramping mode. If it shoots at all, you'll know for sure that your eyes are not functioning.......ramp it for about a minute before stopping........
check your breach for abnormalities or burrs.........relube the bolt and see if this helps

if all that other stuff mentioned doesnt work...or you have another hopper handy (borrow a friends) and check it out. its one simple way to rule out the hopper alltogether and it takes almost no work to check it. all that other crap could take a little while. check the easy things first.

thats sounds kinda wierd...if your ruip drive rotates back and forth, i imagine that could cause a serious problem...like chopping. its definately worth looking into and maybe taking apart and re-assembling.

It may be the oring in the barrel. Your vision is may be broke. It should not be chopping.

Vision is fine, I'm getting a dye ultralite, and I ordered New o-rings, new detents, and a NDZ QEV kit. Once all is installed, I will tell u guys how it is.

It may be the oring in the barrel.
|
- There's no o-ring in the barrel.
If you have already replaced the battery, ensured your detents are in working order, your vision is working properly, and POSITIVE the balls are breaking in the breach (as opposed to in the barrel), it could possible be hopper related.
Does it break paint ALL the time? For instance, is you shoot slow, 1 pull, wait, 1 pull, wait, etc.....does it still break? Or is it only breaking when your ramping/shooting faster?
It sounds like the balls are not feeding into the breach properly. Just because the eyes detects a ball in the breach does not mean the ball is sitting in place properly and ready to be fired.
Test with the shooting speeds I mentioned above and let us know......

he probably means ON the barrel. now i know what im about to say half of you wont belive but here it goes.
this one kid i know was having the same problem with his ion. he checked everything, eyes, wires, dwell, hopper, everything! turns out his barrel oring was really thick, and wasn't allowing his barrel to go on all the way, leading to breaks like crazy.
doubt this is the problem though, since you say its just in the breech, however, if this was happening it would appear that the breaks were occuring in the breach.
handfeed about 50 balls, making SURE that they are all the way in the breech before you shoot. you say its chopping about 1/4 balls. if you dont chop any, its your halo, probably your halo board thats causing the ripdrive to i would guess actually spin backwards causings ball to not be fed all the way. however, if your vision is working properly you should be fine from this anyway. do you have an aftermarket halo board by the way?
there is also a possibility that your noid is staying open too long, causing more air than usual to hit that ball, which may cause breaks. try lowering your dwell, even with out qev, and see what happens. stick your finger in the breech and fire a few times... it really shouldn't hurt bad at all. if it hits your finger HARD, then well i dont know what to do, its the noid/board though, take it to a shop.
make sure thoes detents are in properly, stick your hand in the breech and feel them. stick a paintball in the breech and push it out without your barrel. make sure the detents aren't sharp or anything, also.
dry fire your gun, making sure your vision is working properly also
also do what engimax said, experiment with different rofs.

Okay guys, results are in. I changed EVERY O-RING in my gun. Installed QEV's Replaced battery in gun/hopper. Replaced both banjo's, put in NDZ Detents, and set my Dewll/ROF to 12/8. With a combination between all of these things, My gun performed amazingly. Thank's to every one for your help, I'm glad that people gave me actual answer's, and did not flame me. Thank's.
