Slight problem with My Ion Bolt

Ok here is the simple condensed version:

Last time I clean my Ion i noticed a small little nick on the front clear o-ring and i thought it was nothing and cleaned, grease, and reasembled the gun thing nothing about it. And nothing leaked

Well after ~2,000 rounds later I desided to clean the gun again and found that the oring from befor now looked like some kinda of cat toy wraped around the bolt. Its still atached to the bolt but looks like it has frayed.

And as for the details of the gun.
  • Age it was on of the first runs of the Ion.
  • Orginal airlines are still good and installed with no leaks (Newwer Ions have a Blue air supply line that is larger interior Diameter then the clear ones used in the early Ions)
  • Eye Board and Wiring harness have been replace
  • Operates at ~115 to ~135 PSI
  • Completly Deasembled, cleaned (with warm water and lint free cloth), Air dryed, regreased (Shocker Lube), reasembled and tested after every heavy use (At least a case of paint is used)
  • Dwell was lowered when the QEV was installed but has not been changed scene then (Not sure what it's at anymore)
Stock aside from:
  • Empire Cocker QEV
  • KAPP Red Grip Plates
  • CP Locking Feed Neck
  • Freak Barrel Kit

And II am wondering a few things
  1. What would cause this kind of damage?
  2. Is it preventable?
  3. Will I have to replace the bolt or just the o-ring on it?
  4. Has any one else had this problem with there ION?

Just by shooting your gun its causing wear and tear on the O-rings. I would just replace the O-ring, then after playing check it to see if its getting frayed again.

the QEV will allow the bolt to come forward a bit faster. with that you will "beat up" the bumper oring. (I thought it was the green one) since this is not a "sealing" oring but just a bumper its not really imperative that it be nick free. It will however eventually fail. My recomendation would be;
#1 identify which oring it really is.
#2 if it is the bumper, order a few spares for the tool box. replace as needed.

On any spool design you are going to go threw more orings than other styles of guns. thats just the nature of the beast.
