Dude, don't avoid the swear filter.
You shouldn't have used the oil, but too late now.

Check the hardware store, machinist supply (tends to come in large quantities), Autoparts, or Paintball stores.

wow, at least someone has enlighted the others about the difference between gun oil and dow33! Thanks, Mortisdeum. Keep in mind that dow33 is the common name for the chemical compound. This is marketed under different names to the public, including Evil Pus, Shocker Lube, etc. Also, do not confuse dow33 with dow55. Dow 55 is a thinner lube and will not adhere to the surfaces as well.

I really liked the radio shack lube gel on my ion. worked great, stayed put. and its only $3.
as others have touched on, oil will travel very easily.
#1 it will blow off the bolt and into the breach causing wicked curve balls and horrilbe accuracy.
#2 it will travel down the bolt return line to the noid. (that would be bad...)

umm the reason your ion felt like it worked better is because you've had it for 3 months and haven't lubed it yet. take your bolt out, wipe off that stuff and buy some shocker grease.

guys, oil is oil, it's all made from petroleum, the only differrence is how it's processed. if it works, use it. if it's similar to the other stuff, who will know... say you use the other oil and the gun goes down and you send it to smart parts. i don't exactly think they're gonna get a Qtip out and get a sample of the oil you used and send it to a lab to be analyzed before fixing you're gun.

Correct, oil is oil, but Dow33 is NOT oil. It is not petroleum-based here is it's composition: 60% Dimethyl, phenylmethyl siloxane, trimethyl-terminated
15-40% Lithium stearate (thanks for YDNA's site www.zdspb.com).

well, that is the problem, oil will work for the short term, but will eventually cause problems in the solenoid. If these problems take more than 6 months to develop, then you will NOT be able to get the board fixed by SP under warranty since the warranty is only 6 months! It is a far better idea to do what is right, not what is easiest. You know, this is a motto to live your life by, not just for maintaining your Ion!

Petroleum products are NOT ok...read the last part of the thread. You can use what ever you want, but you risk damaging the solenoid.

Mech Spyders dont have solenoids. I occassionally have to use my spyder as a backup but that pmi gun oil doesn't last very long at all.
