High velocity = bad?

Other than it being a pain in the ass (literally) when hitting someone at over 300fps...can it damage your marker? I keep my impulse at around 285fps. I was reading up on velocity settings in various places and some said operate at 280-285 and others said around 300 x_X

over 300fps can hurt someone.......

while many markers might be able to handle the pressure required to shoot above 300fps it is unsafe to do so. Secondly, i know when i get shot with an extremely hot gun it makes me mad......and youd be much more likely to get hit by someone if continuously shoot over 300fps.

Your marker could handle 300, but i like to keep my marker around 280. That seems to be the general velocity limit for places around here. And like 2 legit said, if i get shot by someone shooting hot, i get pissed the hell off.

An Ion especially, at least Ive seen a lot of blown guages with them (because noobs are using them...) can blow it if it gets too high.

A good rule of thumb (and this isnt directly related to the thread, but maybe someone will read it and be helped by it) is to (with a new marker) to turn the reg all the way down (Counter clock wise) then slowly bring it up over the chrony.

Well any gun is going to **** up if you try to run it as an extremely high fps. Mainly the internals wont be able to handle it and your first shot will blow an O-ring off and all the air will leak out of your tank unless you have an on/off.

You dont have to worry about that unless you mess up and forget which way to adgust your reg and end up trying to shoot at around 400 fps. Anything from 300-340 wont hurt your marker, although the balls will become wildly unaccurate when getting up there in the fps.

1) You can blow the gauge
2) you can damage the 'noid
3) you will break balls and make your marker a gooey mes
4) you will be ejected from fields and will not make any friends if you are shooting hot.
5) you will kill your air efficiency

Just stay at 270-280 fps and you will be doing fine.

Well I find my gun shoots best at about 296-300, so thats what I keep my gun chrono'd to.

Basicly keep it at your field limit and dont put it above that limit for any reason.

Field limits around here are 285 mainly, though anything below 300 is fair play; the refs want to see it around 285. So I keep mine in the 280-290 range
