Need some ion info

hey guys, i'm looking to upgrade my ion to the fullest, i was talking to someone over at paintball wizard in my area and he said that the ion to epiphany stage 3 upgrade really isn't worth it, he told me that i should do a regulator, board, trigger, barrel, and eyes, and other nessecary parts, but i was wondering, what would you guys recommend as a setup for it, especially the regulator, which one would you think would be the best on the market but still pretty price reasonable, i've been out of paintball for quite a while, but i'm just starting to get back into it, and i need some info to catch up a little bit, any help would be appreciated.

Before you get huge into upping your ION take a step back and think about what you want in the end. You can pour 100's of $ into it, or save and spend the $ on a much better gun entirely. If you like the idea of making a fully upped ION then you have tons of choices in parts. Everyone has there own opinions as to what is the best but My recommendations in order would be:

Clamping Feed neck, I like the sp Q lock
QEV, 360 or Virtue
Bolt, L7 or HP
Barrel, Powerlyte Scepter kit or J&J ceramic if your looking for a budget barrel
some sort of on/off ASA, I like CP
trigger, NDZ all the way, shape is entirely preference though.
Killa Magnetic Detents, and the rest is up to you. I agree with your shop owner that the eppy stages are a waste, and unless your reg is a lemon the stock one is one of the best stock regs on the market. Since Sp's quality control isn't the greatest there is a decent chance yours insnt great and if thats the case check out the hyper 2, they should be a bit cheaper since the hyper 3 hit the shelves, or for a best bang for buck buy track down an Evil Detonator. I also suggest getting a good HP tank a fast hopper, and a comfy mask (after all if you cant see it doesn't matter what your shooting)

Remember these are just 1 man's opinions. Go out and do some research before you buy. try out stuff if you can.

ya i completley agree with you, i would rather buy a different gun like a dye dm series marker or a shocker or something, but being in college is the problem, and money is the other factor, i already have the locking feed neck and hpa, fast hopper, but i'm looking for a marker thats cheap but can keep up with most of the fast guns out there, i'm on a speedball team, and a tippmann a-5 isn't the best gun to have on there. lol. thanks for the recommendations man, i'm gunna look at those products.

board: blackheart or virtue is way to go
bolt: orange unicorn/ techt l7 are both really good
QEV: I honestly don't know of any difference in any but SP 360 seems to be the most popular
feedneck: qlock or redz clamping are both really good
reg: cp is best imo, but stock works just fine
barrel: deadly wind fibur is awesome on mine
asa:cp rail n on/off
trigger: preference, but I love the cp slingblade
detents: do you really need to get better ones?
eyes: jd moto or lucky lazer eyes are excellent choices

after that you will have one bomb ass ion. if you want to get into cosmetics LMK.

I agree, used gear is the way to go. If you already have a tank, mask, pack, and hopper take a look at a used PMR or promaster. You can find good deals on older timmies and shockers as well since the ego is the new hot thing to have.

as much i would like to get a even faster gun than what i have now, i jsut can't afford it, i'm trying to upgrade my ion as much as i possibly can, play a little bit with it and then sell it for some good cash at the end. i was talking to someone at my local paintball shop and as far as regs go for the ion, he recommended a cp regulator instead of like a dye hyper reg, do you guys have any feedback on that.

ya me to, its just the price difference of either spending 75 bucks on a cp reg for a gun that i'm not even going to have for that long, or get a dye and sell it for a little more profit when it is time to upgrad to a different gun

you really dont even need a new reg. the ion has one of the best stock regs.If you decide to get a cp reg,get the cp shorty reg.

The problem is that you are going to lose your ass selling an upped Ion. If your plan is to upgrade and sell, don't bother. Check ebay before you do it, you can get Ions with tons of upgrades for dirt. Which means dirt is what you will get for yours when you go to sell it.

Have you considered selling what you have now and jumping to a Mini, PMR , or Fusion? I have an Ion and love it, but I didn't get into it to upgrade and sell.

The CP is an excellent reg, but make sure that you have a problem with yours first. You will likely experience some drop off at high rates of fire, but this can be fixed on many Ions by simply raising the dwell. I personally bought the Hyper 2, I preferred the overall style of it over the CP.

^^^very true.

resale is just as bad as other 2 year-old guns on ions.

I got my ion about 4 months after it first came out for $200, then put a virtue board, Dye UL barrel, Virtue eyes, an extra Shocker Regulator, a strange trigger, and a clamping feedneck on it. All in all, it cost me about $500, getting some good deals.

Its been the most reliable gun in my bag, although the reg has been being lame lately.
