the 1st thing you should get is an on/off ASA. I beleive i covered it in my thread "New Ion owners look here!" It will save you a lot of money in the long run
Ps: For future reference post all Ion questions in the Ion section

Hey Kid.... you got about $600 dollars to drop into your $100 gun?????? That's what you'll most likely end up doing. New Trigger Frame, New Trigger, Virtue/APE Board, Kila Detents, Clamping Feed Neck, DYE BOOMSTICK, Grips, Different Reg, ON/Off ASA, Halo B, AIR TANK (IF YOU RUN CO2, PLEASE SELL THE GUN BECAUSE YOU WILL HAVE TO MUCH MONEY INVESTED IN REPAIRS!) New Body if it isn't BOB (BOLT OUT BACK), etc...
$600 might be steep, but I have met a few guys that have dropped closer to $1000. NO BULL$HIT
But Enjoy.. Mine is a Blast..

What he says is true but....
He never said he has $600, he just asked about upgrades. I gave an essential one to good performance. I beleive a on/off and maybe a new feed neck (The stock feed neck actually work very well if you remove the two bottom o-rings) and your Ion will perform fine. The gun is great to keep around as a back up marker instead of selling it. Get a nice tank and a nice hopper right away, because them you can carry on to nicer markers in the future.

Excellent Point. Especially with the current resale value of the Ion... But they are fun to tinker with..
A new barrel is nice, especially 14".. But I would not recommend any long. JJ Ceramic Makes a good barrel for around $40 or you can go to firstcallpaintball.com and pick up the EVIL PIPE KIT for $50. (Highly recommend the Pipe kit.. that thing is hella sweet!)

I think he has already decided on the DW bub, and I have yet to use a pipe kit that didn't curve like a lefty pitcher.

Hmm. had the one for my Spyder for 5 years and I never had that problem.. I wish Lucky didn't go out of business. That is probably the best barrel I have ever used.

Still wanna buy from Lucky? I know i dont want to support a company that screws their hard working employees out of money. Lucky was a great company and did have great products, but once i learned about this, i lost all respect for them.
A board isnt that necessary for an Ion either though. A lot of people say it is but 17 bps is quite fast, i would upgrade the trigger before the actual board. But like it was said before, dont put a ton of money into this gun. Save the money until you can afford something nicer. I know for the price, the mid-range markers of today have great performance. A fusion or mini are two great choices, so start saving up your moola to get a slightly better gun. The Ion will perform great for now, and will be a great back up marker later. I wish i would have kept my Ion, ive had a couple of times now where i wish i had a fast back up sitting in my gear bag. But QEVs are cheap, so spending $15 or so on one of the isnt a bad deal. Also you may want to get the DW barrel in cocker threads, then get an adapter to convert it to Ion threads. Almost every gun, once you upgrade, takes cocker barrel threads so once again your just planning for the future. Trust me, once you get there it will be a lot nicer you planned for it now.
Also make sure to read my thread on how to take apart and care for your Ion. For a whole year i had no idea how to assemble and disassemble mine, and it caused night mares cause i kept breaking hoses. Then i learned a few tips and tricks and i explained it thoroughly to help with gray areas your manual might not fill in.
