Ok Redz Ion with .689 pepperstick shooting Empire ramp....breaks like crazy in barrel, change barrel to freak jr still breaks paint, switch paint , no breaks........
also shoot Ramp from epiphany with freak jr no problems...ramp also flies silly out of barrel on redz ion

Its also important to get the right paint to bore match. Get a barrel kit.

I have read the manual and there is nothing about turning down the operating pressure. The regulator will adjust the velocity but if the velocity is at 280 the pressure should not be too high.

Well, yeah, that and maybe your gun's eyes are off.
Make sure whenever you use the Ion for actually firing, you turn it on to the setting where it blinks fast. This means the gun is on and the eyes are on.
A simple explanation...the eyes are little sensors that make sure paintballs are entirely in the bolt before the bolt fires. If it's off (Ion blips once or twice quick, then pauses around half a second before it blips again), the bolt will fire regardless of the eye's readings.
Make sure you always have the eyes on if you're going to be firing. If you and your son knew/did this already...then yeah, keep an eye on this topic for more possibilities.

Just make sure you're not shooting hot and your paint/barrel match is correct. One or more of those factors can be a contributing factor to your messy dilema.
