Traction is a term used for Rotating objects..
#1, Use a lighter, it's quicker...
#2, The reason the water worked is cause it either cleaned the metal, or u got hard water and the mineral deposites made it easier to grip
a good trick to use when removing Feed necks....
Get a lighter or micro torch, and let it heat up, Then Rub the feedneck down w/ rubbing alchohol and let it air dry or use the heat to quicken it up. DO NOT TOUCH IT WITH YOUR fingers, they have greease and will make it hard to get off..
Then, just put ur strap wrench on it and Torque that mug off, if u got a dad w/ some msucle let him do it.be careful not to strip it out.. to keep it hot while untwisting it, Use a hair dryer, but use a flame at first to get it to a good heat.
as for your halo, Sand it w/ 100 Grit sandpaper for the best fit, don't use grease, if it gets pushed out pas it, it will get on ur pballs as they fall and effect your accuracy.
