YouTube - Richard Zednik Cuts Neck, 02-10-08

Zednik Hurt in Sabres' 5-3 Win -- ChicagoSports.com

Sabres v. Panthers, Zednik got seriously hurt. I didn't see it (no cable or satellite

) but I just got a call about it.

This comes just a day after linesman Pat Dapuzzo is cut in the face by a skate during the Flyers - Rangers game. Video of that can be seen here: Flyers vs Rangers Hockey Brawl, Linesman’s Face Cut By Skate Video - February 9, 2008

And of course Sabres goalie Clint Malarchuk was seriously cut in the neck back in 1989: YouTube - Hockey Goalie Gets Throat Slit and Cut Up Luckily he survived, but it's very hard to watch. Zednik is currently in surgery.

Wow. I hope he's ok. I saw Dapuzzo get hit in the face this morning on the local sports show.

Hope he's doing ok.

It's SO easy to get cut by skates. You wouldn't know unless it happened to you. I used to play ice hockey as a goalie and I got cut once just tying the laces on my skates. I saw someone have their arm cut just below the elbow pad.

When those blades get cold, they slice you like butter.

From what I've heard, he should be ok. I'm surpized this dosn't happen more often.

happened to malarchuk or whatever his name is in the late 80s. blood squirting everywhere..big puddle..nasty ****. about to click on one of these links lol.

just relizaed you stated malarchuk in your post. but damn..if i didn't know he was alive i would have thought he would have been certain he would have been dead in minutes.

I gained a lot of respect for the NHL about how they handled the situation.

I guess the refs and one of the NHL vp's (he was in attendance at the game watching his son, on the opposing team) confered in the tunnel. They only decided to resume play after checking with both sides and hearing that Zednik was in good condition. They even phoned Gary Bettman, and checked with him.

I agree, the NHL handled the situation as good as you could.

He was racing a Civic at 100+mph and lost it and luckily was able to control it enough to have a "safe" crash.
