BIOS flashing
Hey, i am Bios flashing my old nvidia mx 400 into a quadro mxr. I was wondering, does anyone know if it would be possible to Bios flash my old pentium 2 into something better? If so, do you know where i could get the Bios files for it?

you can't flash a processor. your bios is on your motherboard. you can, however, overclock the processor via the CMOS if the CMOS has the capability. Also, overclocking the graphics card is possible as well. if you have a nVidia card, look into "CoolBits". and for an ATI card search for "ATItool"

that's what i meant (whoops). i was tired when i wrote that. i am gonna replace the bios on the nvidia and then overclock it with rivatuner, and then work on the bios. i think it's an american megatrends type, not quite sure the specifics yet.

Just so you know, If you flash it to a quadro, it will not work better in games. It will work better for programs like solidworks and such, aka work programs. And as pucked said, you can overclock it if it has the options in the BIOS. But if it is any type of major pre-build(dell, gateway, HP, those) then I highly doubt it will have anything.

thanks Zeruel. I just learned that on the net, quadro won't help performance at all wonder if i can get it to a gforce 3? My only concern is that i might overclock (and overheat it) anyone know where to get a system that will let me control fan speed, not just clock speed?

some fans are automatic, also, I'm pretty sure ATITool has a fan control. I haven't messed with that part of it. But without it, I managed to get 35% more performace out of my X700 while maintaining complete stability.

No, you cannot flash your card up. THe architecture's are different which means it wont work. You WANT to overclock it though. That is how you get more speed out of it. However, I dont beleive that your card has a temperature sensor on it, so you have to be very careful when overclocking. And the fan on them is automatically controlled, I had one for a while. WHat I did was just keep overclocking it till the fan was on full speed all the time, and it was fine. However I dont suggest that.

yeah, i used the old finger thermometor while the case was open, and increased by 10 mhz until it felt too hot. then i knocked it down ten, just to be safe.

Sounds like you did it as perfect as you could. Now just run 3dmark01 in a loop for a while to make sure its stable. Same with your processor if you decide to overclock, although with your processor use a program called prime95 instead of 3dmark01. You can google both of those to find them.
