Dell laptops to be recalled.

Source-

http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/08/...815battery.php

Read the full article, it's worth it.

Here's the chopped version-

Dell is recalling 4.1 million notebook computer batteries because they could erupt in flames, the company said Monday. It will be the largest safety recall in the history of the consumer electronics industry, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

One burned a desk, the fire department was inolved, and another caused a truck to explode.

So far no people have been harmed or killed.

** The batteries were made by Sony, and were sold to many computer brands, not just Dell.

Dell will contact customers effected by mail and online and advise them to remove their battery and arrange for a replacement.

I don't have any info on other computer brands that use these batteries.

Li-Ion batteries have been known to have the ability to be a fire hazard for years, and some have been recalled in the past.

So if you own one of these Dells, look for an attempt to contact you.

Caused a truck to blow up.

I chuckled... (after I saw nobody was hurt, of course).

Now includes Apple:

Sony's crisis over potentially flamable batteries deepend further on Thursday as US regulators said Apple Computer would recall 1.1m batteries because they presented a fire hazard.
