Picking a new Computer..
Well, I've been looking around for a nice computer to pick up, and I have kind of narrowed it down. I plan on picking up a Mac of some sort, then dropping enough of a down payment that I could pay it off in a year. I've been looking at 2 computers in particular.
The 24" iMac, and the 15" Macbook Pro.
Here are the specs for each..
iMac:
2.16 GHz
* 1GB memory
* 250GB hard drive1
* 8x DL SuperDrive
* NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT graphics
The Macbook:
* 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 1440 x 900 pixels
* 1GB memory
* 120GB hard drive1
* 6x double-layer SuperDrive
* ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 128MB SDRAM
I plan on using the computer for every day type stuff. Checking email, browsing the interwebs, stuff like that. I also plan on doing some video and picture editing. I'll probably play a few games on it as well.
I like the Macbook since it's portable and everything, but I also like the iMac quite a bit.
Any advice would be helpful.

I was thinking the same. How does internet work for laptops though? I know they can just run off my house internet, but what about when I'm away from home? Do I have to be at a starbucks or something?

That sounds really handy. Are there any fees associated with that?

No. Im guessing it works just like windows. Your computer will look for wireless signals. It will give you a list of signals that it has picked up along with the signal strength (50%, 100%, ect). As long as the signals/networks arent password protected (some houses and private networks set passwords) than you will be able to freely connect. Most schools, libraries, starbucks, book stores, ect. have an open signal that you can connect to at no cost.

Go macbook.
As far as internet, as long as you can pick up a signal you are good. I would just make sure you have a good internet security, because if I'm not mistaken people can start looking on your computer if you don't. Even if you don't have internet setup at home, I'm sure you could 'borrow' it from your neighbors, I can pick up at least 5 unsecured signals at my house.

Yeah, I was thinking about that. College is still a bit away for me though, but it would be nice to be ready.

If you want portablity then go with the macbook no doubt. I have a Macbook(not pro) and I love it . Works great, I don't have to worry about viruses or spyware, runs efficiently, etc. It also comes with some nice programs(iMovie HD, Garage Band, iPhoto, etc). The iMac would come with these programs too, but then you dont have portablity.
As far as internet, the Macbook Pro will have both an ehternet port as well as a built in wireless card(so you can connect wirelessly).
