Processors and ibuypower

Alright, first off I'm bored with my computer and feel like a new one and want to keep the price under $650-700. It's mainly for browsing but i do play games and when I do want them to run very smoothly. I dont expect to be able to put settings on high and whatnot but still want a nice build.

I was thinking about a custom build. Only thing is i'm lazy and ibuypower seems to havea pretty nice deal on some stuff. Now how much $ would I be saving if I just built it myself?

AS for processor, amd or intel?

Speciffically AMD Athlon™64 X2 3800+ Dual-Core CPU w/ HyperTransport Technology vs Intelฎ Pentium-D Processor 940 [3.2GHz, Dual-Core, 2x2MB Cache, 800MHz FSB, 64-Bit]

you'll save sevral hundred dollars by building it yourself. If you know how to do it i highly reccomend that.

as for teh processor, I've always been a AMD fan so i probally would give youa biased opinion..

Martix is right...building it yourself saves you several hundred dollars usually. newegg seems to be the best site i have found for building comps.

as for AMD or Pentium, I highly suggest a core 2 duo. even though they are slightly more expensive than a pentium D or an athlon x2, i have heard nothing but great reviews about them.

I personally prefer AMD as a company, but of all the research i have done on their dual cores (i was in the exact same situation, either an Athlon X2 3800/4000 or a Pentium D 940/945) it seems that pentium D's are slightly better. The Core 2's are alot better, and the only thing (within price) that Athlon has to compare with the Core 2's is the X2 5000+.
I'm not entirely sure on that, if someone else knows for sure feel free to refute it.

Go for newegg, their customer support is awesome. tigerdirect's isn't all that great, dunno about ibuypower's

watch memory compatibility with intel boards, i've read reviews and it seems like alot of ppl have problems with memory other than name brands (Kingston, Corsair, etc)

I would go with AMD, Asus Motherboard, RAM is not much an issue, neither is Hard drive.

If you never have built yourself a computer I am able to build one for you and have it shipped down.

I can do it, i'm just lazy and figured if a custom build would only save me like $90 bucks it would be worth it to buy offline.

I just dont feel like picking all the components becasue i obsess over that sort of stuff and do countless hours of research on everything and this is kind of a spur of the moment thing, not something I really wanted to spend time on.

Thanks for the help though. Any other questions i have I'll throw em in here.

I wouldnt really get satisfactionout of a build, only out of having a cool case with pretty lights and hardware that is capable of playing oblivion without lagging.

and newegg is pissing me off. Trying to buya couple a sticks of ram and nothing will show up in my shopping cart.
