i got a new camera. It came with a litium ion battery and a charger. I charged the battery. I used a portion of it's power. NOW - do i just let the battery sit in my camera with half a charge? Do i leave the camera on and drain the rest of the power, so i can charge the camera completely next time i need it? or do i put the battery back on the charger even though it's already about halfway charged?

if i do put it back on the charger, do i leave it there until i'm ready to use the camera again? or do i wait until it's charged and then put it back in the camera until further use.

this may seem excessive just for the care of a battery, but i am the kind of photographer who likes to go on long camping trips, where battery chargers are not available. I would like to keep my batteries in top condition

I would refer to the instructions that came with the camera.

With mine I charge them use em till they run down or if top em off if I am going somewhere to take pics.

I use Energizer NiMH 2200 mAh in a Sony Cybershot S500. I usually get about 75-100 shots per charge depending on how much I use the flash.

You're supposed to let the factory charge fully drain, plug it in charge to 100% drain that, charge again to 100% and it's good to go.
