Video Card?

So I have a

and it gets most of my internet needs done but not gaming... I have DSL with ATT or w/e and on Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test my download is 1318 kb/s, 322 kb/s for upload, and 46 ms latency. When i want to play Halflife2 or any of the other steam games like counterstrike it's just choppy as hell..I always thought it was my internet but my latency was fine while playing just ****ty gameplay..And I noticed on servers with less detail it didn't lag as much as the ones that had a lot of detail. And I just found out that on Runescape which has ****ty graphics as it is on LOW quality sucks too..When ever theres a bunch of people around everything slows down and gets really gay. So yeah it sucks. Would this be my video card that is my problem? I've defragmented and did a disk cleanup and got rid of some unused programs and what not. If it is a crappy video card is it possible to replace my videocard in this pc or would it make more sense to invest in a new computer? I have a 26" tv for my monitor so no need for a new monitor. I wouldnt have much money to spend right now, it would probably be down the road.

Yes, it's probably your card. How much can you see spending on a card? I just spent $90 on a new 7600GT, which should be enough to play on high settings (depending on your resolution) on the games you've listed and moderate settings on games that are brand new.

I agree.

I'm so pissed I can't even run wc3 on low settings on my new laptop. 2 gigs of memory, 200gig hd, core 2 due 1.66 but ****ty graphics. Processor isn't that fast but its the graphics that are messin up the games. I'm going to have to rebuild my old pc if I want to game at all.

He'll have to open up and see what kind of slots he has.

You can upgrade any component of a computer.

I'd say go with a 7600GT like TonyD said.. I use one in my gaming rig, and if you overclock it you can get some nice results. IT comes with software to overclock so its easy.

First thing you should do is open up your computer and find out what brand and model motherboard you have. Its usually printed in big words somewhere near the middle of the board.

Then, look it up online and see what type of PCI slots it has.

If its any good you'll have a PCI Express x16 slot where you can plug in a PCI Express x16 video card. OTherwise you'll probably have to settle with regular PCI, or if its older, AGP (but it looks new enough).

Also, speedtest tests your internet connection, not your hardware.

hmmm thats odd because you really ****ing cant. Most older and premade computers cant really do **** to them other then pci cards hard drives and ram and even that is limited sometimes. It does no good putting a pci video card in to a comp that has a built in card that is the same or better. There are a lot of computers that only have pci slots on the mother board. so to upgrade it you would really be making a new computer with an old case

What are you talking about? Power supply, RAM, HArd Discs, Raid Controllers, USB controllers, sound cards, video cards, physics cards, disc drives, cooling systems... You can upgrade ANYTHING. Computers are great because they all conform to standards. 3.5" hard discs, 5.25" drives, 120,80,90,60mm fans, etc etc etc.

Yes, it does a LOT of good. Whatever information that had to go through the chipset before now gets processed by its own memory, and its own processor. That frees up the CPU to focus on other things. Upgrading from integrated graphics to a dedicated card is one of the best things you can do for your PC if you want to play games or video.

I have never heard of a PCI slot being in any other place then on a motherboard.

If you dont know what your talking about, don't conflict with someone who has been building computers since before he knew how to ride a bike.

Yeah I bought a 7600GT when they were cool **** for $150... Now I feel jipped.

I was eyeballing the 8800GTS... But then again, in 6 months its going to be outdated anyways.

HP Pavilion Slimline s7320n (Celeron M 1.66 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 200 GB HDD) Reviews. Desktops Reviews by CNET.

Under the bad it says that the system cannot be upgraded or whatever so I guess I'm screwed.

Any reccomendations on a cheap computer only, no monitor. That can run the games better than what I have now?

It is incredibly simple. There are plenty of how-to's around the internet and I'm sure if you ask nicely Alpha will teach you everything you need to know about it.

Basically you get the components, plug them in, and turn it on.
