Ethernet Question - Networking Homework Help!

So can anyone tell me why Ethernet uses two data transmit wires and two data receive wires?

I seem to think/remember that the data on one wire is mirrored on the other. That, in conjunction with a twisted pair, would mean less/no crosstalk, correct? So for example the first transmit might be carrying 110101001, and the second transmit would have 001010110. Is this correct, or is there a different reason for having two data transmit and two data receive?
